Need help with spousal PR application — I got my PR last year but moved to the US on H4
Hey everyone,
I could really use some guidance from folks who’ve been through something similar.
I received my Canadian PR in November 2023, stayed in Canada for a few months, opened a bank account, got my driver’s licence, and then moved to the US after getting married. I’m now in the US on an H4 visa (dependent).
I’m planning to apply for my wife’s spousal PR (sponsorship) and I’m a bit confused about how to proceed since my situation is kind of in-between.
Here are my two main questions:
1. Is this considered an inland or outland application?
I still have an active Canadian address (my friend’s place) and a Canadian bank account. Technically, I’m not living in Canada right now, but I’ve read it’s easier if the sponsor is “in Canada.” Should I list my Canadian address or be upfront about living in the US on H4?
2. Financial proof concern:
I don’t have a formal job right now I mostly trade crypto. Because of that, I don’t keep large amounts in my bank account regularly. For the application, should I temporarily maintain around $15K CAD in my Canadian account to show stability, or will that raise questions?
Would really appreciate advice from anyone who’s gone through a similar cross-border PR situation or dealt with CIC nuances on “residency” for sponsors.
Thanks in advance!
