Hello guys.

I have a refugee travel document. It´s close to expire. My question is this:
If Im going to renew, do I still need the guarantor or the Statuory declaration in lieu of guarantor form?

Does anyone who renew the travel document (still as protected person, not permanent residence) can share the experience?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Yes you need. You will do exactly same things as the first one.

Hello guys! Hope you are doing well. My first rtd expires on June 15th 2025. I want renew it but I haven’t received my PR yet(hoping to get by new year in worst scenario since it has been 28 months) I was wondering that if I can get RTD (it is gonna be my second RTD) for 5 years or is it gonna be for 2 years again (Since I don’t have PR) ? Thanks in advance!

I Think it Will be For 2 years.
5 years is when You are PR.

Oh that's a bit tough. As per https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-i...travel-document-expired.875050/#post-11103735 you actually were not suppose to do that:
You should not send your old RTD as it is expired, in the application form it says clearly to only send any non-expired RTD's. (Application PPTC 190E, Page 4, Section B says 'any non-expired RTD issued to you in the last 5 years').

But someone did report that they will send it back to you if you request it, see https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-i...erience-with-valid-visa.728781/#post-10108841

To make the request, look at https://ircc.canada.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1548&top=4 and https://ircc.canada.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1663&top=10 for step by step instructions.

It was not expired, was still valid till January 26,2026
Ah, in that case it sounds like you followed the instructions correctly. However, it's also less certain if they'll return the documents to you - they have an interest in preventing folks from holding two valid travel docs at the same time.

I'd speculate that if you put in the request now, you'd get it back eventually, but they wouldn't actually send it back until Jan 27 (i.e. after it expires) exactly to prevent the above scenario from happening.

I've noticed on this forum that most RTD holders seem to only apply for a new one once the old one has already expired, and I see now that this must be the reason why...

Once they issued, previous one automatically became invalid and They make the small cut on the corner to make as well,
I specially sent Written request as well to returned my old RTD while i sent application
They still hold mine
Im trying to ask US embassy in Vancouver what can be done in this Situation but they are asking me to bring the previous visa with new appointment date

In the old days, before clowns took over the country, I think that would have worked fine.

You basically have the same situation as described in https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclop...ment-u-s-visa-after-losing-your-passport.html - old passport is essentially lost and old visa along with it. So you need to get a new visa without being able to bring your original old visa.

Do you have proof like a photocopy or picture of the old visa? That likely would help. If not, having copies of your original visa application, notices, and any other related documents would help. Not sure if you can file a police report for this kind of situation - but if you did have one that would also help. Basically just explain at the interview why you don't have your old visa anymore to show them, but proof that you did have it as well as how you used it (proof of your travels etc showing you didn't overstay etc).
