Hello,

I would like to ask for your advice regarding traveling outside of Canada while my PR application is still in process (inland application)

Currently, I hold a valid open work permit. I have been waiting for almost a year and I am now at the stage where I have just been invited to apply for the CSQ, as I am residing in Quebec.

I would like to return to Thailand for about a month, but I am not sure if I will be able to re-enter Canada afterward. Also, I am concerned whether leaving the country would make my PR application invalid.

From what I searched, it seems that I need to apply for a TRV in order to re-enter, but I am not sure if this is accurate.

If you have any information or advice, I would really appreciate it.

You question is very common here... yes, you can travel since you have valid TRV and OWP. Check this thread below. A lot of information about it.

1 month may be pushing it. Would limit the trip to 2-3 weeks if possible. Do you have a valid TRV?

I don't have TRV. I only have eTA.
Can I stay longer if I got TRV?

Appreciate your response

ETA and TRV all essentially the same thing. No a TRV would not let you remain outside longer. IRCC has typically overlooked short travels abroad while applying inland. They do realize that people may go on vacation or have to travel for a business. Most Canadians get 2-3 weeks of vacation a year which is why would advise sticking to 2-3 weeks. Are you currently working in Canada? Is your spouse traveling to Thailand with you? Is there a reason you must visit for a month? Is it exactly a month or longer?

Are you currently working in Canada?
Yes, I have a PGWP from my studies since 2021, which is valid until the end of 2026.

Is your spouse traveling to Thailand with you?
Yes, he will travel with me from Montreal to Tokyo for one week, and then from Tokyo to Bangkok for two weeks. He will return earlier, while I will stay one week longer to take a short course related to my work.

Is there a reason you must visit for a month?
Not really essential reason. We plan to go after New Year to visit my family, and I will also be taking some professional courses during that time.
I didn't book the tickets yet.

In this case do you think should I stay there only 3weeks and re-entry with my partner?

It's safe for you and your application come back with your sponsor. You can let this course after get your PR card. Avoid headache! You are almost there...

Are you currently working? That is different than have a WP. Is this 1 week course essential? Would be much safer to return with your partner and limit your travels to 3 weeks. There are no concrete rules about this but 1 month is tough to justify as a vacation based on Canadian standards. Given IRCC is being more strict when it comes to files and given length of processing would always suggest being cautious but ultimately up to you to decide whether you are willing to take the risk and stay to do the course.

For sure It is not worth to take risk.
Your suggestion is so helpful.

Now I have another issue coming up just today.
My partner just received a letter from Immigration Quebec in response to my CSQ application.
It states that my sponsorship application was returned because the yearly quota has already been reached. I can only reapply after June 25, 2026.

This means that while waiting, my PR application might be closed through no fault of my own. It feels very unfair. Will I have to pay the PR application fee again and start resubmit everything again if that happens? Do you know anything about this?

So far, I’ve only completed the biometric step.

I am working as self employed. Registered taxes number. Declared every year for 2years now.

Is this 1 week course essential?
It is essential for my profession but can wait even better not to wait.
