Is it possible to travel out of the country while waiting for the approval of my inland spousal application? I have an open work permit though.

Yes, it's possible. Work Permit is not a travel document, so you need a valid ETA or TRV. Check this past debate regarding the meaning:

Thanks James for this info.

Hi James,

Hoping you could provide some insight.

I am currently on LMIA WP which expires July 2026. I applied for SOWP in June 2025 after I received the AOR and I got the WP-EXT letter which actually expires before my LMIA WP expires.

My questions - am I able to travel outside of Canada and return to Canada without any issues since my LMIA WP gives me status until July 2026 or does the SOWP application revoke my current LMIA WP? In the WP-EXT letter from IRCC via my SOWP application, there is a paragraph that says "if you leave Canada before a decision is made on your application, you will no longer be authorized to continue working".

Thanks!
