Hi Everyone,
I wanted to ask folks who have brought over parents/grandparents to Canada via the Super Visa route.

1. Besides Manulife and other main Insurance providers, what are the cheaper options?
Manulife is offering me around 3k for 1year Basic medical coverage for my 76 year old mother with no pre-existing conditions.

2. How much did you folks pay? Is around 3k total considered too high for such a person?

3. Can you name credible Insurance providers that are not well known, and cheaper but are acceptable for a Super Visa application?

THANK YOU in advance!!

I applied for the super visa of my mother in April 2025 and her insurance will be active from Jul 15, 2025. She hasn't received visa to travel yet. Therefore I have to postpone the activation date for her insurance to avoid extra charges. However the policy number will remain same. Should I inform IRCC?

A bit high but healthcare costs are going up and the number of supervisa visitors who actually use their insurance is quite high which is why premiums are so high. The 3k could be wiped out with a single ED visit if some more expensive testing is involved and dependent on drugs involved.

We brought our parents over on a Super Visa recently, and we didn’t go with Manulife because the premium was higher for seniors. We compared multiple licensed Canadian providers and found that Canada Insurance (parentsupervisa dot ca) had better rates and benefits for similar coverage.

For a 76-year-old, 1-year basic medical coverage can often be reduced by comparing different insurers like 21st Century, Destination Travel, or GMS. It’s worth checking if they offer deductible options, which can lower the premium significantly.

We were happy with the service, claim process, and pricing, so it’s worth getting a quote and comparing before deciding.

As long as you can actually have the savings to pay the deductible if you use healthcare. Many would not be able to pay the deductible or any expense over 100k which does happen. Sometimes paying more upfront ends up being less expensive in the end. Having parents visit come to visit comes with a very high risk of significant costs which is why LICO amount is insane. Not sure how many can even afford to pay for insurance and likely many aren’t paying especially after the first year.
