Maybe because of the capacity? Didn't they mention they are only accepting 5000 applicants somewhere?

This is scary and interesting. Now I guess we need to know what is this online invitation thing to solve this puzzle. My take is; 10% people who randomly see online application option/button is the invitation. When i started my application the link/button was there but then it took me 2-3 days to finally submit my application so I assume at the time i finally clicked my submit button,my invitation was expired. Its just my thoughts and i could be totally wrong.
Hey Snghi_2013, when you login to your online application, what do you see on the page the normal format? You submitted an online application?

If I’m in your case, I’ll call IRCC just to check since they’ve updated today that they are processing applications received on Dec 31. Just ask them what things you can do to at least get info if your application has been reviewed or not. You can also send webform. I might be doing that if I’ll be in your position. I submitted mine through paper on Dec but was returned so I thought online is better in terms of the AOR atleast due to the previous trends but not now I’m starting to doubt it
The December 31 is actually on their website when you check what they are currently processing. They just updated it today.

I have sent a webform with a copy of my online application and directly asked them if they are going to accept my submission or if I need to apply on paper. I will wait and see, but I'm ready to send a paper copy as soon as I hear from them.

Kindly update us if you have info so we don’t waste time waiting for nothing. Thank you.
They shouldn’t have launched the online application if they weren’t prepared for it. Sigh.

Will do. And sorry if this is causing stress to other people. I don't want us to waste our time and energy on something that is not going to work for us.

This morning, I have sent a webform with a copy of my online application and directly asked them if they are going to accept my submission or if I need to apply on paper. I will wait and see, but I'm ready to send a paper copy as soon as I hear from them.
Same thing, I sent webform attached online application and call agent and asked. He can’t find any information in the system. Seem very strange.
But he did confirm one thing. He already sent out a few AOR for online applicants. Then from Dec-10 onwards online applicants, stop receiving AOR. Any comments?

This is quite irresponsible on the part of IRCC. Why make something available if you don’t have the resources (manpower and technical) to deal with it? Applying for citizenship should never be this cumbersome.

A few days before I submitted my application, I saw on the website “you may qualify to apply online...”, I checked the conditions which I met, created an account, and subsequently submitted my application on Jan 8th.

It seems there’s so much mis-information or lack thereof within the department - from the call centre agents initially not even knowing about the existence of such online program to IRCC social media admin saying you can only apply online if you’re directly invited. No one was directly invited, I don’t think anyone one received an email asking them to apply online.

Most of us randomly came across the page, and the rest were told about it by others who saw it. So it makes no sense that invitations were sent to random IP addresses/browsers or whatever. The whole IRCC department need to get its shit together.

I feel like we all should start writing/calling/tweeting at the immigration minister and MPs starting tomorrow. There has to be a database where all the applications go to once you click submit, so it shouldn’t be this hard to go in there and fish out people’s applications, review them, and send out AORs accordingly.

I don’t buy all this “we can’t see anything in the system blah blah”, just like they can physically go into the mail room to see paper applications - they should also be able to go into an online database to see what’s going on with online applications. This is ludicrous!

Just a single comment by IRCC Social media team about direct invitation has created all confusion and unnecessary panic.

I doubt the online applicants with AORs received any direct invitation to apply for online citizenship. While its possible that IRCC designed the initial version of this tool with an aim to get limited applications by direct invitation but how would they know who all are interested in to apply online, so that they can send those "direct invitations"?

My guess is that they just wanted to avoid promoting this new trial version to avoid flood of online applications. Moreover as pointed out multiple times, there is lack of clarity among IRCC employees for this online tool.

IRCC Social Media team may take their last comment back about "direct invitation". Lets wait for them to respond before panicking any further.

Online app submitted: December 4, 2020
AOR received: February 3, 2021
Invitation for online test received: February 23, 2021 (online test dates: February 26 to March 18)

EDIT: this is NOT an urgent application
Did you receive test invitation from IRCC or you just go to IRCC website link and apply?
