I am planning to migrate there. I took a decision this morning itself. I spoke to my cousin who moved there more than a decade ago. She is helping me get in touch with a lawyer. I am 36 single female... A journalist. I have over 6 six years of work experience in the UAE and over 9 years in India... I am a graduate but not from a reputable university.. Though I have my degree with me. I never bothered to collect the detailed report of my degree....But I have good enough saving in my account. Do you think I would be eligible?
Also, what is the difference between applying on my own, getting an attorney from canada or going through an agency from India? which one would save me time and be more efficient? Thanks

If you don't have a degree that is recognized, you will struggle to be selected since you won't have sufficient points.

Oh. It is a from a known university but not an A list uni. But in my 14 years of work experience, I have worked with all top notch companies dealing with VIPs from across the world. Would that help?
Also, what is the difference between applying on my own, getting an attorney from canada or going through an agency from India?

To get points for your education, the school has to be recognized and you have to go through the ECA process to have your education assessed. The ECA process involves submitting paperwork to prove your degree completion, etc.

You will get points for your work experience. However you are also going to lose points due to your age. Immigration programs favour those who are younger than you.

The difference bewteen doing it yourself vs. using a lawyer / agent is the amount of research you need to do on your own. I would avoid using an agency in India. If you want help, hire a lawyer in Canada. Expect to pay $3,000 to $5,000 in fees. Or do it yourself if you don't want to pay this kind of money.

Suggest you start by researching the Express Entry program and calculating how many points you think you have to determine if immigrating is going to be realistic. You want to have around 470 points (or more) to have a decent chance of being selected.

To add also in the above, you would only need a consultant or agency if your case is not straightforward. Most of the applicants get by by reading on the IRCC requirements online and visiting forums such as this.

What do you mean when you say, "if your case if not straightforward" ?

The process is very simple but initially you need to do some reading on this forum. I would recommend you going through the pinned threads on this forum to understand Express Entry.

If your case is not straightforward, you need a lawyer not a consultant. 98% of the people do not need either of them.

Which province does your cousin live in? There are some provinces that nominate you for having family in their province. You will find it hard to get an ITA without a nomination. The reasons are your age and your level of education. Your work experience is capped at 3 years, so anything over that is not going to fetch you more CRS points but it might help you qualify for the FSW program. To get started, get an ECA for your degree and take a language test like IELTS or CELPIP to create an Express Entry profile.

I think a provincial nomination will be very difficult. Can't imagine journalist is a priority occupation on anyone's list.

Thank you for your honest responses. Also, I am unemployed for the last few months...
I am willing to do this on my own but if I hire a lawyer from canada (as my sister suggested) will that better my chance or shorten the process?
Thanks
