APPROVED: I submitted my passport to a VAC. Now What?

Hi. I applied for my student permit online on 20th Oct 2019. I received an email today telling me that I have to submit my passport to a VAC. Under the "Final Decision" tab it said you application was approved. I'm wondering why they requested my passport. I already have a 10 year tourist multiple. Are they going to stamp the passport with another TRV saying student this time? When will they give me a Letter Of Introduction? Thanks

That's unfortunate, the IRCC do have wonders that will never cease! Some don't get PPR request since they have valid TRV while other do. Just submit your passport and don't question it. Probably the visa will indicate Student and cancel the existing one. Letter of Intro you will get on your CIC when the visa is stamped on your passport

You really think they will cancel my existing visa? Why tho? Won't they just stamp another "Student" visa on another page?


Also, you're saying I will receive the LOI online only once they stamp on my passport?

Yep. You can't have 2 valid visa. One has to be cancelled.

Yesh, when you pick up the passport you will see an update to your CIC with LOI attached.

I guess then I would lose my 10 year multiple and instead get a visa only for the duration of my program??

Not sure if they go with the duration of program or duration of passport. Mine, they went with duration of passport. My passport expires 16 october 2023 so I was issued TRV upto 15 october 2023. So, when I renew my passport, I need to let them know so that I can get another TRV.

They do. If he gets another visa stamped, it will have different number kind of serial number, so it get cancelled so the border officer can scan the new visa.

My online student application got updated to "Approve" today so when I checked my old visitor visa application it said "visa is invalid." So I guess they cancelled my old one. I had no choice, but I would've preferred to be able to enter Canada with my existing TRV instead of a new one. Unfortunately they gave me a new one with the duration of my program.

And BOOM!!! I definitely knew they always cancel the existing visa to issue you another. The visa doesn't determine the duration of your stay, it is the study permit. Visa is just for reentry to Canada whenever you take a vacation home or another country.

Yes I understand. Have you had the same experience with this?

Also, even tho I got approved online I still haven't received my LOI. No update on my passport either. Should get an update today or Monday. Will I get the LOI with with passport?

See if it will be updated with another message containing LOI when you pick up your passport.

I only had experience once with the USA visa when I renewed my visa 6 months before it expired and they cancelled the old one and issued me the new one, so I made the judgement all countries do the same because it won't make sense having 2 valid visa that serves the same purpose; entry to the country.

UPDATE: Got my passport today. My old visitor visa has been stamped with "Cancelled Without Prejudice". New student visa stamped on the page before.
