I got this letter by email last week that my file transferred to a Canada Immigration Centre in Etobicoke for further assessment. It took almost a year for me to get this one letter, and i don't know how long more i should wait to hear something again. Getting so depressed...

On the letter, it says processing time may vary...
Please share any information like timeline, if this happened to you.

My local office is Etobicoke CIC, 5343 Dundas Street West

I am not an expert on this, so perhaps wait to hear from a member with more experience.

But from what I have heard, once this happens it usually means they want to interview you to determine the validity of your relationship.

Do you have any red flags in your case that you are aware of?

Sorry to heat that.. When a file is transferred to a local office before AIP,they usually need clarification, often times they will call for an interview and you may have to wait about 8 months to two years for that. People get AIP after succesful interview. Do you have any red flags such as age difference , short term relationship or such? You could order GCMS (foss) notes too so you will have an idea why your file was transferred.

wow... it could really be another year or TWO?...
my case is a bit complicated story. Me and my boyfriend (who i dated 10yrs ago, disconnected for years, then started dating again when i got separated from my ex husband) moved together to canada on June 2012 from US. because my boyfriend grew up here and wanted to have a family here. he has a dual citizenship, was never married, never applied PR for anyone before, has a stable job here, doesn't have any problem getting approved as a sponsor. since then we've been living together for 2years now.

as soon as i came, i filed divorce with a lawyer in US and it was finalized on Dec, 2013(took more than a year). at the time i was sending my application as a common law partner, i attached copies of my divorce receipts. i thought it was enough... so i did not send my final divorce certificate as an update when it happened. i am thinking my file got transferred because of this...?

so, anyway... when i got this transfer letter last week, i mailed it to the local etobicoke office address as an update.

i've been staying here as a visitor for 1.5yrs and then implied status... total 2years already...
i am dying to go to my home to Korea for all the health check ups and stuff :'( :'( waking up everyday, not being able to go to work is depressing. we've been trying to have a baby, but not happening...
maybe i should just leave and apply again from outland. that might be faster.

i didn't know about GCMS note. thanks for letting me know.
im gonna try to get that to see if i can get any other clue in the mean time :'(

Our first application (which was refused by local office...long story) was transferred to local office after waiting the initial year and a half that inland processing takes. We had to wait another 8 months for local office as that was their waiting time (London, Ontario)
CIC 1-888-242-2100 does know what your local office waiting time is, maybe give them a call and ask...

Usually a transfer does mean red flags. Maybe it's time to get a lawyer if you haven't already, our lawyer (for our 2nd application) told us that had he known our situation in the first application he would have never suggested an inland application, and that as soon as it was transferred to local office, we should have withdrawn and started the outland route. Outland is usually much quicker.

Good luck!

Your divorce is not a factor here since you are applying under common law. Did you supply an adequate amount of documents to prove you both lived together for at least 365 full days before sending your application?

Thnks for the info.
Yup u will soon get ur landing letter.
Its nothing to worry about. They just have to transfer files from one office to other to complete the process. They can't do everything from a single office .
