For anyone who has applied and hopefully received a PRTD recently (particularly if accompanying a citizen), what did you provide, and how much documentation? I have been abroad for several years now.

Currently doing this now. I am lacking "evidence of the residential address of the person you are accompanying for the five years before the application (mandatory)"

I lived in a country (Philippines) where my wife (the Canadian) was not allowed to be co-listed on rental agreements. I have all of these:

  • marriage license
  • wife's birth certificate
  • copies of passports
  • my original landing document (also passport with stamp)
  • lots of cards: my PR card, BC healthcare card (wife and mine), SIN cards (wife and mine), Canadian driver's license (wife and mine)
  • LOTS of plane tickets that match in both our names
  • Notice of Assessment from CRA from wife

Scappa,

How about bank statements? Do you have joint account showing the address with both holder's names for the past years before the application?

No. We were in Philippines and my wife was there under my work visa. We have copies of all those.

But in Philippines they didn't allow my wife to get accounts. It was daft.

Hoping the few docs I have are good. We have loads of plane tickets matching. Like 20 trips.

I just realized I have some accounts in Canada, with TD and also credit card statements where my wife is on my TD card and I am on her TD card. Would this work? The problem is they are Canadian addresses (of her dad's home in Canada) like I say, we were living in the Philippines at the time.

You can try it anyways.

This is what sucks. I 100% meet the requirements. Just don't have addresses. Hoping the Philippines government issued visas that we both have are proof enough.

If not and this gets delayed I'm concerned because this job offer I'm moving back for is dependent on me being in Canada.

So my PRTD was accepted. Ultimately that is all I wanted.

Alas, the PRTD was a single entry, despite writing a cover letter stating that my job required me to travel outside of Canada. Now I have to renew my PR card when I get back to Canada, and it states the wait time is 69 days. I will have to travel for work, so I will have to request an urgent processing which is not guaranteed.

I am going to write my experience on here on getting PRTD. It wasn't amazing. I am not at all satisfied with the process and I intend to write the VAC a letter of complaint. The objective of this letter is not to truly complain, but to help others and inform them and hopefully have the VAC improve their service.

Hi @scappa Did you apply PRTD in Makati, Manila? How long was the processing time? Also, was your application a straightforward one, did you have 730 days in Canada? Thanks in advance!

I was living in Europe at the time. So I sent it to Rome VAC. Processing time was quick because it deals with local applications and it's not a Canadian government office that is bogged down with internal applications. It took 2 weeks to approve and get my passport back.

Of course they ignored my request for multiple entry PRTD even though now I am risking my job my declining business trips.

I am married to a Canadian, so time with her counts towards residency obligation.

There is an embassy in RCBC for two in Makati. I used to work in the same tower, they may handle PRTD there.

How did you address the residential history, showing that at same address. I am overseas so only have my name on lease and utilities are paid by the owner... so nothing... other than bank or credit card statements hat have same mailin address.
