Dear Experts,

My brother got an admit in Canadian university for Masters program. I am already in Canada.

does it make sense for me to pay the me or the fee should come from an Indian bank?

Which option makes the visa application stronger? or it does not matter?

Kindly share your views.

Thanks

You should pay it through India, doing it from Canada shows that you have a link their and want to settle out.

Cic will know about your presence through family information anyway.

I will give you another perspective to consider. In case his visa gets refused, refunds are normally done in the same route it was received. It will be easier to receive the money back in Indian bank by wire transfer than having a cheque in your hand in your brothers name! I would recommend to do it from India.

i paid my sisters tuition fee from my credit card inside Canada . Got approved her visa.
But i asked the school first if she rejected her visa how they give me refund. They said refund goes back to your credit card.
I don’t think there is any problem paying tuition from here .
Good Luck :)

I tried doing so too. Turns out there is a foul-mouth 10% charge on Mastercard payment of tuition fee! Immediately after, contacted Indian bank for wire transfer.

Good boy , common man who asked you 10 % charge for paying from Master card ? In Canada, life without credit or master Card is like hell.Until now, I always paid my and my sister tuition fee from my visa. i never screwed up like you said.

10% was my mistake, it should be 2%. But yes, the convenience fee is indeed there. Visa does not allow this convenience charge, hence ONLY Mastercard is used in my university (Memorial University of Newfoundland). I think different institutes have different policies. If your institute allows to pay from visa, you aren't paying any convenience fee for sure.

On a different topic, can you please tell us about your experience when your sister applied for visa (you being present here, her ties to home country will be weaker)? Did she ever face any rejection? What were her supporting documents in final application?

I could ask you in personal message, but thought to ask here as other members will be benefited too. There are 4-5 people I know who are looking for more information/insights about this. Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

1. ok 2% makes some sense
2. She got her approval in first attempt , she applied online in New delhi visa office.
3. My sister was separate candidate, she depends upon her parents not on me and parents sponsored her for all expenses. her ties to home country always strong as long as parents live there. If her ties to home country are weak because of me it means she cannot come for education in Canada.
4. we wrote strong Sop and mentioned she can work in MNC in India after completion of education in Canada.
5. she had 2 years gap between +2 and graduation but we just mentioned latest one means Graduation. only paid 1st sem fee and GIC. nothing Else .
6. Her Ielts overall 6 bands, 3 modules 5.5 each and 1 module 6.5.
Thats all

Guys,

so its okay to pay fee from here?

And in case I need to get it back I need to pay 2% for credit card.

I can pay using with debit card its not a problem.

Thanks

Talk with school first what's their policy for refund and how do you get refund back if you pay from credit card for your brother. you are not paying any % fees to credit card for payment or refund but later if you don't paid your credit card you will charge 21% interest. Better talk with school first
i would prefer to pay from credit card instead from debit card
Good Luck

I agree with Rajwinder. Talk to the school first to understand the method of refund (for me, getting it done from Indian bank was easier than paying it here by debit / credit card). For visa purposes, both methods is fine.

In case you are trying to catch fall session, keep in mind that wire transfer from India can take few days depending on the bank.

Good luck!

Thanks Rajwinder. These information will be helpful to many members. Quick follow up questions-

1. Did she declare your name on family information form? (I suppose she did, just making sure)
2. For MNC, did you provide any copy of advertisement or some other proof for the said job opportunity?
3. Did she own any property/asset at the time of application?

Once again, thank you so much for helping others.
