NOC Code Confusion

I have always been unsure about my NOC Code. Here is the JD below:

• Prepares and sends applicable solicitor instruction packages
• Liaises with solicitors to collect all required closing documentation
• Reviews legal mortgage documentation to ensure it matches committed terms and is in compliance with established regulatory and company guidelines and policies
• Escalates any documentation issues to the Underwriter and/or Team Leader for review and sign off
• Co-ordinates with mortgage accounting department for the release of mortgage funds on a timely basis
• Sets up and maintains filing systems and controls confidential materials and documents
• Documents clear and complete notes within the mortgage underwriting system
• Responds to all inquiries within established turnaround times
• May supervise and train other staff in company policies and procedures and in the use of current software
• May perform other general office work as required such as distributing regular and electronic mail and other material to co-ordinate the flow of information internally

Please let me know which you think closely fits the above- 1242 - Mortgage and Real Estate Legal Assistant or 6235 - Financial Sales Rep.

Note: I do not work in a law firm but in a finance/mortgage company. Thanks

For easy reference:

NOC 6235

NOC 1242

I agree with you, the duties seem to match 1242 better. Here's the problem - the lead statement of 1242 -

"Legal administrative assistants perform a variety of secretarial and administrative duties in law offices, legal departments of large firms, real estate companies, land title offices, municipal, provincial and federal courts and government."

So this lead statement does not include the mortgage/finance companies, and those who work in the financial sector usually have their own specific NOCs.

I can't tell you whether IRCC will accept 1242 or not. Just suggesting why ESDC might not have selected 1242. But NOC 6235 is not right... 1434 is not eligible (skill level C), and I think 1242 fits better anyway...

Do you have any kind of legal educatio/training that might help support the choice of this NOC?

Thanks for the response Jes. No, I don't have any legal training for this job. I actually have a license similar to a broker's license which I had to obtain for this. Choosing a NOC code for this job has really stressed me out :(

Drop a note to 'NC-NOC-CNP-GD2@hrsdc-rhdcc.gc.ca' detailing your roles and responsibilities and check what they advise

I did that already and they advised 6235 which clearly doesn't fit my JD

As far as I have heard if they suggest a NOC code then you print out the email thread and attach it to your profile. Make sure that you have sent them all the information (job responsibilities, education and experience requirements for the job you doing, your education and work experience prior to this job, the kind of work you and the company are doing)

Hope this helps. I am confused too since I am a Jr Project Manager in an engineering firm and my JD closely matches with NOC 0211 but since it is category '0' I've heard its more for departmental managers and project managers wouldn't fit into this category. Also in 0211 it is mentioned extensive engineering experience is required under Employment requirements. emailed to hrsdc and waiting for reply for more than 2 weeks. I would appreciate it if anyone could help me too. Thanks guys :)

Do you know of anyone who did that and ended up with PR?

And regarding your case, I suggest you post your entire JD here and also send them another email. Good luck!

Does anyone know someone who successfully applied for PR with an email from the NOC team suggesting a different NOC code from what they had in mind?

The email they send does state it's up to you to pick the correct one. For one of my jobs I emailed them twice and I got a different noc code back each time! For some jobs it really is up to you and what evidence you can provide to the officer.

Here's the thing, you're not the first person whose NOC does not find a perfect fit. It is not an exact science. It is on you to pick the best one, but you can always write a letter of explanation about how you weren't sure about the right NOC, why you chose the one you did, and the alternatives you considered. The good news is that it seems that (nearly) all the alternatives are skilled too.

One suggestion that HAS worked for a few people (but not for others) - talk to your HR person. They should understand the NOCs as well as your job description - get their opinion.

Just as a follow up to this thread, I ended up with NOC 1242 and got my PPR.

So for anyone else out there who's confused as I was, go with your guts and give it a shot. Better to try and get rejected than not try at all. Good luck! :)

Same issue! I was a project manager in a startup, leading a team of 7 people but I only had 2.5 years of experience prior. Even for my first ever job when I sent the email to NC-NOC-CNP-GD they suggested two category '0' NOCs. I have to admit for both my jobs I got "thrown" into heavily demanding positions despite having barely any experience. I'm worried CIC might think I'm lying or exaggerating my skills

Hi,

Could you please guide me what would be the NOC for the below duties performed by me. Below are bullet points of some of the activities performed. HR for some weird reason said they can give only around 5/6 points. Currently have taken it as 1114 - Other Financial Officers. There are other job responsibilities too but HR would not want to print everything except for the main 5/6 points.

• Provide services to support part of Fixed income/Money markets/Forex products such as Inter-bank FX/MM, Corporate FX/MM, Non-deliverable Forward, Plain-vanilla Option, Complex Deposits etc. on the Regional Processing of FX/MM/CPD/FX Option for EMEA/North America region.
• Trade capture, bookings and amendments for lifecycle events, which includes daily fixings, barrier events, exercises and expiries.
• Performance analytics reporting for the assigned portfolios and ensure data accuracy for the daily/monthly data reconciliation from different regions to the central database are accurate.
• Closely analyze STP Processing and work to increase STP without mismatch of Settlements Cash flows.
• Co-ordinate and act as a key point of contact for clients, global business partners, the Front Office, Middle Office, etc. to ensure smooth business continuity.
• Amending/canceling trades as per trade recaps and ensuring PNL’s are in line.
• Client Money Reporting to the Senior Management on a daily basis.
• Comply with regulatory requirements and internal guidelines as per different market requirements.
