Hi Guys,

I got to know about this forum through some of my friend and they did mention that this forum was by far the most interactive and informative forum on Canadian immigration.

I plan to migrate to Canada with my wife and 9 year old son, I have been informed by some immigration consultants that I need to first get my ECA and IELTS done following which I then have to register on the CIC website so I have been involved in researching WES website for some time now, though I understand some part of it the others get a little confusing. This is where I need advice from you guys as even the immigration consultants do not have a standard reply for it.

I'm an Indian and have done by Bcom from Mumbai University and PGDIM (3yrs) from XLRI Jamshedpur, India. Now as per WES website since PGDIM is the highest I need to also submit FYBcom + SYBcom + TYBcom marksheets.

So do I have to :
1. courier an unattested copy of Mumbai University Degree Certificate and a unattested copy of PGDIM from XLRI (and not originals) to WES
2. Request college to attest FYBcom & SYBcom marksheets and courier them directly to WES or hand over the sealed envelop to me
3. Request Mumbai University to attest TYBcom marksheets and courier them directly to WES or hand over the sealed envelop to me
4. Request XLRI Jamshedpur to attest PGDIM marksheets and courier them directly to WES or hand over the sealed envelop to me
5. Is there any document that need to be notarized.

If I receive documents mentioned in point 2,3 & 4 from respective college/university, I'm expected to put all of them in 1 big envelope and courier these documents to WES with my refrence number mentioned on each envelop..

I would really appreciate the forums valuable feedback on this. Thanks.

Thanks Stanlee,

Does transcript and marksheet both refer to the same thing, a dumb question, i know but in some forums they have mentioned transcript and marksheet as being something different.

I'm I right in presuming that notary of documents is not compulsory for WES ECA. right?

Transcripts and mark sheets refer to the same thing, the only difference is the way they are mentioned. Transcripts would have all the subjects opted by you along with grades for the entire duration of the course, while mark sheets would also be the same but would be semester wise or year wise. Some universities release transcripts on request, while some ask you to get mark sheets which they attest and then send it in an envelope or give it to you to send for assessment.

If you are referring to the degree certificate you only need to send a legible copy of the same, notarization is not mandatory.

The guidelines are different for different institutions. Once you make payment on WES site, you will get an email with a checklist which states what all documents needs to be sent and how. The email comes with the subject 'WES - Application Received (Automatic E-mail, Please do not reply) - Reference # (XXXXXX)'.

Having said that, the general guideline is stated below.

Arrange for the documents to be sent directly to WES by the university or autonomous college responsible for conducting the examinations.

-OR-

If the document is given to you to forward to WES, it must be attested & dated and placed in an official sealed envelope that is signed or stamped across the back flap by the appropriate authentication officer at the university or autonomous college that conducted the examination. If the envelope has been opened or there is no stamp or signature across the back flap, the document will not be accepted by WES.

Thanks Stanlee,

Also would appreciate if I could get your advice on the following:

1. Which WES Package should I avail:
A. WES ICAP vs WES Basic
B. Course by Course OR Document by Document OR CPA Board Evaluation
2. Since I plan to immigrate to Canada with my spouse and 9 yr old son and my spouse being the principal applicant do I also have to get my academic documents ECA'd by WES so she gets more points.
3. Would I be charged seperately for each document or CAD 200 approx (excluding shipping) for all 6 documents that I send across to WES i.e.
A. FYBcom (College attested only), SYBcom (College attested only), TYBcom (Mumbai University attested only)& PGDIM (XLRI attested only)
transcripts.
B. Unattested Xerox copy of Bachelor of Commerce degree(i.e. Convocation certificate) and Unattested Xerox copy of PGDIM Certificate.

WES Basic is what you need to do. Check this link http://www.wes.org/ca/eca/, it will guide you as to what needs to be done.

2. Since I plan to immigrate to Canada with my spouse and 9 yr old son and my spouse being the principal applicant do I also have to get my academic documents ECA'd by WES so she gets more points. - If you would want to claim points, then yes, but nor mandatory. The maximum that you can claim in this would be 10 points. Also, if you are looking at increasing the CRS score, you can get IELTS done for you as well, you can claim up to 20 points.

WES does not charge by the number of degrees that are getting assessed in one go, which means while you are registering for ECA with WES, mention all the degrees you want to get assessed, you so pay only CAD 322 (200 plus delivery, plus taxes). Please note, you cannot combine your wife's and your educational assessment in one applivcation, each will be treated separately and separate payment of CAD 322 each.

To avoid additional delivery overheads, request your college to send you all the sealed envelopes and you can in turn send it as a single package to WES.

Hi Stanlee,

I just registerd myself on the WES website today and uploaded my XLRI and TYBcom(Mumbai University) details.

The Mumbai university and XLRI institution names show up in the dropdown however my college name i.e St Andrews College, Bandra does not show up. I presume I need to register FYBcom and SYBcom as well since WES also needs FYBcom & SYBcom college issued and attested marksheets.

Also for FYBcom and SYBcom should I consider Institution Type as University Education or Professional Education.

Since St. Andrews College is affiliated to Mumbai University, won't Mumbai University issue you a transcript which includes the marks of FY, SY and TY? Have you checked with anyone at the university.

No not yet, I was under the presumption that I had to register my FYBcom and SYBcom details as well under the college name. and ask the college to issue these transcripts.

Stanlee, did you also get your FY and SY transcripts issued and attested from the university itself.
My case was different and not Mumbai University either. In my case, the examination was conducted by the university, even though I had all the mark sheets (for each semester) issued by the university, I requested for the release of transcript which includes all the semesters, which they did.

You can refer to this thread for ECA process for Mumbai University http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/-t274447.0.html

I am not sure how this situation is handled as FY & SY are from the college and TY is from the university. Generally, all would be either from a college or from the university. Would suggest you to post your query on the thread that I shared in my previous comment, someone who has gone through the same situation will be able to help you.

Hi Stanlee,

I am also in process to register at WES for ECA. Just need to check one small doubt as below:

I have done diploma after 10th-SSC and then BE Computers degree (got direct admission in second year). Here I have only final year marksheets+degree certificate issued by Mumbai University.

Now my question is that do WES need 2nd year and 3rd year marksheets?? If yes then do I need to get it attested by college as in this case Mumbai University will not accept college issue marksheets.

Awaiting your valuable feedback!

Regards,
Shahid
