Hi Guys,

I need help, it says on the CIC website "If a supporting document is in a language other than English or French, the applicant must provide CIC with a copy of the original document as well as a version translated by a certified translator.

The instruction guide for Express Entry candidates and the instruction guide for Express Entry applicants explain to applicants how to meet these requirements."

I could not find any information on how they define a certified translator.

I am asking this as translation services are much cheaper in other countries as compared to where I live but need to be sure what will be acceptable by CIC.

You either need a Canadian-certified translator or you can use an overseas translator who needs to provide an affidavit.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/cit/admin/general/translation.asp

Depending on your location, getting an affidavit may be very expensive or a lot of hassle.

I had my documents translated by a Canadian translator to avoid all this.

You can find them here (example Ontario, no doubt there are similar organisations in the other provinces):
http://search.atio.on.ca/search/index/1
Thank you Dan I was thinking of getting it done from Canada spoke to a few companies and also went on this link but there seems to be no Danish to English Certified translator in Canada. They best they can do for Danish is to provide an affidavit.

:( I was so happy because it is so much more cheaper to get it done from Canada which is like a dollar a word

I find that very suprising. The link I sent you is only for Ontario though. Did you check the respective associations in other provinces as well?

If there really isn't an accredited Danish translator in all of Canada, you will have to drag one in Denmark in front of a commissioner and have him swear an oath to get an affidavit.

I don't understand this last part. If they don't have anyone who's able to do a translation, how can they possibly provide an affidavit?
Hi Dan thank you for getting back

Most of them have Danish to English but none are certified to translate Danish into English by the ATIO. They say that they can get the translation done accompanied by an affidavit.

I tried looking for more across Canada but did not find any will try to look harder now u guess

I got a very decent quote from them for 4 pages, but haven't submitted my documents for translation yet. They claim they do everything according to CIC requirements, and also mail the translation (in addition to email) for free.
I would also be interested to know if anyone did translation with them before I cash out.

If you are from India, go to a court. There will be certified translators there. They will help you out.

Ask "Alex" for his full name, and check on the ATIO website if he's registered/certified. Or ask in which province he's certified (& check, he's likely a freelancer).

I wouldn't touch that website with a bargepole: the English is ... Bad...

Re: What is a Certified Translator

^^ I'm in the same position...I have been communicating with Alex back and forth for several days now and was JUST going to pay...and then I saw this thread so I'm keeping it on hold.
Alex Davidson is the Translation Manager.

He says Yes when I asked if the translation is considered certified and translated as per Ontario Translators authority..

I actually found the website while browsing this website a while back... but want to know if anyone else got anything done from them recently... they have prices much better than all the other freelancers I checked (Whose names were on the ATIO website)

The team details are here: http://document-translation.ca/translators-interpreters-in-toronto

Please advise.. I will keep it on hold until I get confirmation from anyone else..

That's not the right question. The question(s) should be: "is the translator certified? By which authority? What is his/her name please?" Then check directly with the relevant authority yourself if the person/agency is certified. Just my opinion.

Re: What is a Certified Translator

All the email IDs I found were .ca Canada websites.

I just asked him the name of the Ontario association certified translator who will be doing it.. and the reply I got was a 1 liner that they cannot disclose personal data of employees.... is that normal?

Are you sure it is $1.00 per word? Just want to confirm, because it seems incredibly high to me - I am a translator.
