Hi

I am filling out the Application to Sponsor a Member of the Family Class forms for my spouse who lives outside of Canada. In one of the forms it asks, do you have a national identity document? What is that? What would this document be for a resident of India?

Thank you!

Yes its for Indian Citizens.....

Re: National Identity Document

What if my spouse doesn't have that card, would a ration card be okay? Or what else can be used to prove the national identity?

India doesn't have national identity cards, put N/A

I read this online:

India is currently piloting an ID card system, see Multipurpose National Identity Card (India). Proof of identity such as passport, ration card, PAN card, or driving license is mandatory for issuing essentials such as electricity, water, cell-phone SIM cards, etc. Those without proof of identity can often not obtain such basics.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_national_identity_card_policies_by_country

If you do a search for it, you get Unique Identification Authority of India (also known as Aadhaar) and a lot of people have got them. But not everyone yet.

So that's why I got confused.

I asked my wife about this national identity card. She didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Yet that site I posted states that identity cards are being made for all people of India. Strange that people in India don't know about this. I will write N/A then. Thanks guys!

Does Aadhar card not qualified as National Identity document ? Please clarify.

did someone find an answer for this? Do we use AADHAR card as national identity document? someone please let me know! thank you!
