Hello,

I would like to ask about the likelihood of getting a NOI from OINP - Human Capital Stream with a score of 475. Also, how often are these NOI issued? The last one I saw was in September 2024, which is almost 8 months ago, and the score was pretty high! Are the scores expected to drop?

Sorry, what do you mean PNPs being cut in half? Also, NOC is data scientist.

Would be working towards maxing out any possible score for example language score and see if you can get a score over 500 or closer to it.

Ok, I see. Hoping for the best I guess. Thanks everyone!

I would recommend looking for ways to increase your score. Cut offs for draws are expected to go up and not down.

The days of hoping for the best are over for now. You need to be much more strategic to maximize your chances or it will be very difficult to get PR for most.

Hi. My job title is assistant prof, but my job duties match data scientist role. i have a strong background in research using machine learning techniques and stats. can i apply under NOC for data scientist?
How can you be an assistant prof and not have the duties of one? As long as none of your duties mention teaching and instruction then sure but then you aren't a prof anyways. There hasn't been IT HCP draws in over 1.5 years.

I have all duties of Assistant Prof. But I would also like to apply under NOC for data scientist since my profile is quite research heavy as well.

So you are a prof, and that is your NOC. Once your NOC says teaching, instruction etc. then you are a prof.
Thanks. Here are the duties for Data Scientist. I also perform this. Can i also apply under that NOC? Teaching is just one part of the job of a prof. the other parts are research and service.

Data science combines statistics, artificial intelligence (AI), database research, and software development. Data scientists identify past actions that predict relevant future outcomes.

Data science includes at least 4 stages:

  • Initial exploration (for example, analyze data to understand the quality and structures). Generate a summary and description of the key variables and values based on initial exploration
  • Data model building or value-based pattern identification
  • Model testing (for example, applying the model to new data to generate predictions)
  • Model deployment (using the model to make predictions and/or decision in the real world)
In general, data scientists clean the data, which involves removing data that may have errors or contradict other data in the pattern. They also:

  • Select relevant subsets of data records to reduce the amount of information to explore
  • Identify the most relevant data variables
  • Determine the complexity and nature of data, information or business models required
  • Use techniques such as bagging (averaging), stacking, bootstrapping and meta-learning
  • Apply different models (for example, association mining, classification mining, cluster mining, neural networks, Bayesian networks or support vector machines) to the same data
  • Compare model results to select a preferred model
  • Apply the selected model to new data to find patterns and clusters or test and generate predictions or estimates of expected outcomes
Some data scientists may use prescriptive analytics (building different prediction models based on various potential decision actions) to guide decision makers to a desired outcome.
