Hello guys, please help me. I need to withdraw my refugee claim, and I don’t know how to do it properly. Every time I call immigration office they say different things. I’m lost. I already sent an email to Canada border service but they told me it will take forever. I need my passport back as soon as possible. I came to Canada for a few months only and I didn’t know that I was applying for a refugee status, I wanted to apply for a WP only.

It's very easy. You can visit IRCC office with downloaded withdraw form. They will take. After few days (2/3) working days they will ask any additional documents they need. After get approval, you need to visit CBSA, they will give you the instructions. And you will be done at Canada.

I called IRCC many times and they don’t know how to help. One men told me to call CBSA, so I called them and they told me to send an email to the regional office and just wait. They told me it will take very long time.
another person told me to contact RPD because my file is held by them. I’m going to call them tomorrow. Everyone is saying that this very serious situation and it’s not that easy to withdraw the application. Although I even haven’t been scheduled for interview yet. I’m going to marry in December in Ukraine and I don’t know what to do, I just really want to go home. This whole situation sounds like a nightmare to me.

I am telling because I withdrew my claim just in march this year. You can ask or visit Canada government website to get the application. Need to visit RPD/IRCC in person to submit to avoid delays. If your withdrawal not abuse the system, they’ll allow and accept your application. I spent almost 20 days with the process.

Thank you for your reply. I hope I’ll succeed in this. I’m so frustrated right now. Don’t believe that this all happened to me..

Can you also tell me what does it mean “if my withdrawal not abuse the system”??

Dont worry about that, just follow poster advice to visit IRB with already filled form and registry will process it, once done reach out to CBSA with confirmed ticket and they will issue your passport at the airport...

Would make sure to give CBSA a bit of time to return your passport. Contacting them the day before or even a few days before is risky. As soon as you book your plane contact your local CBSA office and include proof of your ticket departing Canada. Indicate that you are withdrawing your asylum claim and would like to arrange the return of your passport at the airport. I’m confused didn’t you apply for CUAET? That would have given you a WP so you already had a WP if that was your goal.

When I came to Canada I didn’t get a WP for CUAET at the airport. I was confused and didn’t know what to do. I called the immigration office and obviously they didn’t understand me correctly. I can’t image how it’s all happened. I asked them for a WP and told that I came for CUAET and they send me the refugee form. And I’m really stupid since I filled that in and let them seize my passport.
i’m going to IRB office on Friday to withdraw my application. My return ticket is for November 8

Had you already been approved for CUAET and showed proof of the approval when arriving in Canada or did you have another visa from before the war? What are your plans for after you get married? Do you plan on remaining in Ukraine permanently?

Yes, I was approved for CUAET and it’s my first time in Canada. I applied for visa within the CUAET program. I came here just to visit my fiancé family, since he can’t leave the country and they can’t visit us in Ukraine. I didn’t plan to stay in Canada for ever and I still don’t plan to change the country of living. I want to live in Ukraine.

It’s his aunt and cousins. I didn’t mean mother, sorry.
Oh, nice to hear that you’re Ukrainian too
That would be complicated for you to travel in the future. Refugee claim is serious matter.
well I honestly do not understand how people maintain lives in Ukraine, to me it looks unsafe everywhere, from Lviv to Donetsk.
