Dear All,

I have recently been granted the Student Permit of Canada and my flight is on 11th August. I have applied with my WIFE and she also get her Open Work Permit along with my Student Permit. However my question is regarding the PROTECTOR.

Do we need to get Protector for my wife as she has the visa type WORKER although she don't have any job over there in Canada, will there be any complications on the airport?

Please anybody guide me about this.

Don’t know what protector is but if you applied together at the same time, she should be allowed to travel with you.

Protector is required for any Pakistani who is travelling with his passport stamped with employment/work permit sticker,

FIA at airports verifies it for each passport.

Visa type WORKER is mentioned in visa sticker on passport?

Hi TechieGreek, how does one apply for a Pakistani Protector, if one is already in Canada
Tkhan, we have to apply for Protector once we are in Pakistan because you have to give them the passport to stamp protector for it. What I have gather in the last 24 Hours is, when we transfer our Student permit to Work Permit PGWP, and when we return to Pakistan, the first that we need is to get the protector on the passport for the WORKER visa.

My scenario is I am student but my wife is on Worker Visa, I had a discussion with a consultant, he told me that FIA generally does not stop Wives accompanying there is husbands even if they have the Work permit, but if there is other way around, means if Husband is on SOWP, then if they dont have protector then FIA doesn't allow them to travel to Canada. But I haven't taken the risk and completed my NICOP procedure, I will go tomorrow to get the protector for my Wife.

"FIA generally does not stop Wives accompanying"
Regardless of age or gender, FIA officially checks the visa status and validity for each Pakistani. So anyone who has WORK/EMPLOYMENT sticker must get protector stamped.

SUGGESTION: Do it all by userself.
At the time when you travel to Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment, you will be surrounded by many local agents. Do not talk to anyone, move straight inside as they will rob your pocket and cost you the double of normal fee. Arrive there as soon as office opens around 8am.

For protector, a medical certificate is required. For this purpose keep a copy of your medical results from IOM. If you dont have this, keep a copy medical instruction letter your received from IRCC, a copy of fee payments you received at IOM clinic, copy of email that your medical was uploaded to eMedical and a copy of your IRCC profile that shows your medical is passed.

Procedure is simple. At very first point, there is a cleark who will verify your document and hand over 3 challans to pay (2 challans to be paid at NBP and 1 perhaps at HBL). Total cost was around PKR 7000-8000 in 2019 including fees for State life insurance (Valid for 5 years and insurance will cover about PKR 5,00,000 for any incidence).

After you pay challans, you will return to Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment office where you will get your token number for biometric collected. After biometric is collected, you will be interviewed by an official (head of office). Interview is simple and justa formality 2-3 questions i.e why are you travelling, country etc. After he signs your form, you will submit you passport for stamping. This process usually completes at 2pm then its lunch break

You will required to come again at 3pm for passport collection. So better stay there and wait. Before the passports are returned, there will be someone who gives a 5-10 minute presentation. So its a one day job.

Thats all. Good luck

Hello Guys,

I have got the protector stamp on passport for the my wife who will be on worker visa in Canada. The process is quite simple and less time consuming. Here is what I gone through to get protector, I will mention all the details so that anybody who is reading this post gets some help out of it.

I went to Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment pretty early so that I can get the things done easily and as early as possible. So I went their at 8:45 AM, their usual opening time is 9 AM. When you will go there, security guard will ask for the purpose of your visit. Then he will direct you to the Photostat Shop within the premises. The shop owner name is Rehan, he is a very kind and helpful person, tell him about your situation He will guide you perfectly, he will photostat the required documents and fill the forms for you.

First he will send you to the Individual Visa Room, there a person will make an entry of your passport, and gives you the challan, take that challan to the Photostat guy, he will fill the form for you, then he will redirect you to take the filled challan to bank (within the premises), there you will pay the challan fee which is 7200/= Rs only. Once your challan is filled, go back to the photostat guy.

He will then redirect you to the State life Insurance Room, which is on the second floor(Roof Top), the person will fill the document for you and then handover you the document, then come back to ground floor, and go to the IT department.

There the person will enter details about your employment, and take the photo of yours, and you will be redirected to the corner of the room, where a person will handover you the protector stamp, you will then take that protector stamp to Individual Room, he will sign the forms, and paste the protector stamp on your passport, and take those documents to the director for final signature, once director signs the forms then you are good to leave the premises. Your protector has been made.

I hope this helps anybody who reads this post.

Required Documents:
1) Passport
2) Work Permit/ Work Permit Approval
3) Visa Stamp
4) Offer letter of University (In case of Open Work Permit)
