I am a masters student but thesis based so As you mentioned I don’t have courses and I am working on my thesis. It was mentioned in my enrollment letter.
I hope your supervisor's letter will work and it will convince the officer.

But you should have thesis course, master thesis, like courses in your current course registration profile. It could be enough to provide that you are a full time student

I have seminar and research that I put a new enrollment letter.I don’t know how long it take. The pervious application is rejected and I can’t do anything about it. I had 90 days to re-apply.

I think seminar and research courses will be enough. Hope you get the result very soon

Thanks so much . I hope so.
I'm also in a similar course; I added my transcripts, enrollment verification and letter from my supervisor/dean indicating a tentative completion date. I think they should be aware of thesis-based programs not having many courses. Nevertheless, I ended up explaining the situation about the thesis review and pending seminar in my letter of explanation.

Hi everyone,
I have the same
Issue and the officer is not convinced if I am a full time student, when I will finish my study , and which courses I have. I re-applied and did restoration of status. My husband also lost his work permit and my son cannot attend school. This time I added a letter of support from my supervisor and He explained I need one more year to finish my thesis. I am so worried if it gets rejected again. Could you guys get your study permit ?
Usually Supervisor are aware of international students and the Uni gave them a certain time to extend the thesis I think your supervisor extending it to an year is creating a problem, usually its 6 months, saying from experience. My friend's also got extended, the Supervisor communicated with admin they issued a letter saying 6 months is the max they can allow as per the guidelines for international student. The supervisor are usually not authorized to give a time frame. Mine said it would take 6 months to get the corrections done by externals and get a completion certificate. I did it in 15 days. You have to keep on pressuring the Supervisor that you are an international student and can not work as per domestic student you have fixed time limit.

If there is a time limit indicated in one's enrolment certificate to complete the program, doesn't the officer have to take this into consideration? the school is giving him that time to finish. what is it to the officer who doesn't know the uni. education process?

The school has nothing to do except money. The officer gets an assumption that the time already alloted by the Uni and Govt as in the first instance designated for a course is the time a student is intended to finish a course, not all officer are Ph.D educated, many of them don't know what a thesis is, sometimes there are some who doesn't mean that a doctorate is another name for Ph.D. Hence they need clarification for extension, saying that oh this is not the time for field work, the persons doing statistics of your data collection is having other student's thesis also to be done, the place from where you are collecting data is not giving you time for interviews or data collection and you can't just turn up and say that oh I want my work done now whatever it is.

I mean e.g. if in your enrolment verification your time limit for completion is summer 2025 and you apply to extend your SP, can the officer decide to give you an extension until e.g 2024 spring instead of your rightful time limit that is written on your university enrolment verification? second q, if he did, then you will have to apply again for extension, then pay the same money again and deal with it again. that is unfair. i just want to learn how it is in practice. do they comply with the time limit indicated in the enrolment verification usually? thanks

I wish I could get my supervisor to accept my thesis that early (15 days), I sometimes feel like he wants me around to help him co-author a paper or two with me before it's too late and I've graduated lol, but yeah, one semester is normal time frame + 3 months for buffer (to change the status to another visa upon graduation). I wouldn't go more than one semester (4 months) + 3 months max for an extension. Agree with the point about how universities want you to pay fees for continuing terms, and they aren't bothered about how much time you take to finish. Finding a supervisor who wants to graduate you on time is difficult for thesis-based programs; I have three more friends who started with me and are in the same situation.

No no sorry for making myself not clear 15 days was after it came back from externals with the corrections and you have to address then in a proper format, then the HOD takes thar in consideration and give it a go to degree completion and finally publication.
I know the thesis depends a lot on supervisor's attitude. Mine was so cooperative that she did all the extension work on the behalf of the Uni on her own.

Yes they do. Usually you get an email when the deadline is approaching and also the head of Department as well as your supervisor will communicate with you regarding the deadline. The Uni sometimes loose a track of an applicant being international so you have to take care of that. They will simply can say oh we didn't knew that you have time limit to complete a course. You have to do it in time, otherwise you know what they say since you don't need to attend Uni you can complete it from your home country.

no what I mean is does the ircc take the time limit mentioned in your enrolment verification into consideration? if it is written as summer 2025. do they extend your sp to around that time, based on yr enrolment certificate or give you an extension arbitrarily?
