Hi All,

Does anybody know if it is possible to use Medical Exams in two different PR applications? One for the TR to PR Program and QSW ?

Thanks for your help!!!
I believe it should work, there is UMI number associated with each medical. If you update them to both applications, it should be good.

I have applied under the IG stream and waiting for the final decision and they are taking a long time. So, my question is, Am I eligible for an open work permit, if my work permit expires after DEC 31, 2022?

Yes, you can apply but not until 4 months before the expiry of your current work visa.

The details of the OWP for TR to PR Pathway are here:

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/tr-pr-pathway/open-work-permit.html

Read them very carefully a few times because you have to follow a few unique (not very obvious) application instructions specifically for this pathway. If you want the full time period available to Dec 31, 2024, make sure your Passport doesn't expire (and possibly your Biometrics) before Dec 31, 2024, as this will limit the expiry date they can provide. Best wishes.

You can apply now because you’re within the 4 month window before the expiry of your work permit. The link is in my reply above.

Starting on August 2, 2022, in most cases, we'll email to tell you that you are eligible for a longer period of work on your current work permit if you meet both following conditions:

  • your open work permit under this public policy will expire on or before December 31, 2022,
  • your passport is valid until at least December 31, 2024
What does the first condition mean? when it says on or before Dec 31, 2022. does this mean your work permit expires before Dec31, 2022 then you are eligible to apply ? Thanks

What it means is that some people who applied earlier for the OWP under TR to PR were originally given an OWP with an expiry date of Dec 31, 2022. When IRCC realized that they would not get all TR to PR's processed before the end of 2022, they then extended the expiry date to Dec 31, 2024, and communicated that they would ‘automatically’ send out OWP extensions to Dec 31, 2024, to the people who had already applied & received the earlier Dec 31, 2022, version (if their contact info, passport, etc, were uptodate & a few other details).

Additionally, anyone with a TR to PR application in process with an expired work permit, or a work permit that is expiring in 4 months or less, can apply for the OWP under TR to PR.

They will only provide the permit to the maximum the new policy allows, Dec 31, 2024, or the date of your expiring passport, whichever is soonest, so make sure your passport isn’t expiring too early. You could renew your passport and then apply.

Remember to read through the policy and instructions carefully all the way through, perhaps a few times.

Ughhh, one thing I'll never do is vote for Justin Trudeau and his liberals who live in their La La Land Canada once I become a citizen. This guy has no idea. He seems to be living under a rock. Cost of living is rampant under him. He's been apparently trying to fix the housing crisis since he took office in 2015. Skilled immigration is good but his govt. needs to have the infrastructure first before he calls skilled immigrants. Good luck everyone. PR is just the start now. There's no housing and healthcare infrastructure at the present to deal with the influx. His govt. is riddled with big money contracts to companies owned by his friends. He spends 6000 dollars a night for a hotel in London with taxpayer money when millions of Canadians are a pay cheque away from homelessness and poverty. Have you guys seen Vancouver lately? That city is in crisis right now and these politicians are nowhere to be seen. UNDER HIS GOVT., SERVICES ARE APPALLING. 2.6 MILLION applications in backlog, are you fucking kidding me? People like us are waiting like headless chickens. What's so hard to process a freakin' application? I've no criminal background anywhere, submitted IELTS with 9 bands, have a full-time job in healthcare, never broke immigration rules, paying my taxes from 5 years, volunteering with city of ottawa to pickup trash and litter, have no medical conditions that can potentially be a burden on their healthcare system (which ironically is already collapsed), want to have my own clinics to help people who dont have a family doctor, graduated with honors and 4 GPA, AND THEY ARE FUCKING TELLING ME THAT THEY CANT PROCESS MY APPLICATION EVEN IN TWO YEARS. I HAVE MY ENTIRE LIFE ON HOLD since two years. Can't start my further education. This government is a joke. A sad joke.
BC is run by NDP but yeah agree with your point

So I just heard back from my MP, he said exact things as GcMS notes…. N told me if you dont get Pr by june 2023(applied in june 2021) contact us. I mean where did he help me in this process? For WP extension he told me waiting is 169 days if you want it faster raise a web form. I feel so devastated with this government, their lack of work ethics. In my extension letter they said u can work until 18th nov or until we made a decision whichever comes first… I mean if they didn’t process it by next week, what’s gonna happen to my job? My mental Health is gone, my peace is gone because of this country

I feel you bro, its been really a big ordeal. But you should have known that (or atleast know now) that's how govt operates. Canada never promised to give this opportunity nor are they entitled to. We came here for education and have to technically go back. See US, UK, Germany, they have even stricter rules than Canada. Heck I have family down south (in US and in Ausi) and they have it even worse there. In US, it takes f*n years to get a green card and the citizen ship, and some people have waited over a decade. The H-1B visa is restricted to a lottery system with a max cap. In Ausi, they make people jump through fire hoops (figuratively) for the PR (barring some streams). I know the system needs overhauling in Canada, but it'll take a long time (maybe 5-6 years before then can actually fix it, my opinion, based on how big govt or companies turn aorund and fix things). But as much stress there is, due to pandemic after effects, you also have a job, a stay/work permit and apparently a good life/friend circle where you live. Housing, i agree, is a mess but it can't be solved without ample construction workers (need immigrarion for that) and big companies who will bankroll this project. As Canada is still a capatalist country and they can't be building houses like in a controlled socialist style set up (Although personally, no harm, if they did do so to address the housing shortage). I think you will be a good citizen for Canada (based on your hard work and the helping out you mentioned you do). As much as it sucks, i guess we can wait another year (as slow as thing seems which will push it to 2023).
I know it’s hard in other countries. And I know Canada is not entitled to give us PR. They do expext us to go back but that’s just on paper. Canadian govt. advertises in many countries for PR and international students. Even their govt. policies indicate that canadian govt. want international students and skilled immigrants to stay here and get citizenship. They track the no. of students who stay in Canada and make policies to increase that number. They literally say this on live interviews with their wish to retain international students. Covid is just an excuse. The only problem here is that I missed 2021 and 2022 to start my further education. Now I’m on track to miss 2023 deadline. If my PR was processed on time, I’d have already completed my education by now. Three years is a lot for me. I wanna eventually settle but i still have to study further. This plays a big role, and i am not getting young every year. This comment was in response to how skilled immigrants are put on a hold while they call for millions more. This is just ridiculous.
