A new mobile application is available to help test takers prepare for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) standardized exam.

IELTS is a popular globally recognized English language proficiency test taken by individuals interested in higher education or immigration. The IELTS exam evaluates the four main language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

The new mobile app provides prospective IELTS test takers with speaking and listening tips, free IELTS mock tests, videos of speaking interviews, quizzes and assessment explainers.

The app also focuses on providing guidance to potential test takers on IELTS listening and speaking test topics, as well as modules on vocabulary and grammar.

Commenting about the app Micheal King, Exams Director at British Council said, "We have launched the app with an aim to provide an authentic source that is handy, easily accessible through mobile handsets and able to deliver high-quality content."

The app is available for both Android and iOS users.

Individuals interested in immigrating to Canada under the Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, or any of the Provincial Nominee Program need to prove their language proficiency by providing their IELTS test results as part of their application.

It is good practice to take preparation courses or a free IELTS practice test to better understand the different components of the exam.

Other language proficiency tests that may be required for Canadian immigration include a Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) exam or a Test d'Evaluation Français (TEF) exam.
