The Peterborough, Ontario region is among the many areas in Canada that are working to make themselves more attractive immigration destinations.

There are many immigrant-serving organizations in Peterborough but "There has never been an oversight committee looking at issues pertaining to immigration," said Mike Ma of the Community and Race Relations Committee.

Theses organizations have collaborated to create the Peterborough Partnership Council on Immigration Integration, which according to Ma will demonstrate the importance of immigration to the regional economy and society. "Immigrants need various connections, including economic, social, institutional, cultural and community," he noted. Rather than each having their own strategies, the council will provide a more coordinated approach."

The services offered include help with settling into the region, finding language training programs, and securing employment.
