I Have Received a PGP 2021 Invitation: What Should I Do?
Under Canada's Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) 2021 intake window, potential sponsors had between October 13 and November 3, 2020 to submit an interest to sponsor form on IRCC's website. IRCC will hold a lottery to invite up to 30,000 potential sponsors.
IRCC issued invitations between September 23, 2021 and October 4, 2021.
Potential sponsors who receive an invitation to submit a sponsorship application must submit a completed application package, including supporting documents and fees within 60 days of receiving the invitation.
Supporting documents include income tax records, documents relating to civil status, and other material information.
During application processing, IRCC will ask persons being sponsored to provide information, such as their biometrics fee, medical exams, police certificates or any other documents that are required.
IRCC estimates that completed applications will be processed within 20 to 24 months.
Receiving an invitation to apply is extremely rare and it may in fact be a once in a lifetime opportunity. The reason for this is that there is tremendous demand among Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents, however the demand to sponsor far exceeds the number of available PGP spots provided by IRCC each year. In previous years, some 100,000 people have indicated a desire to sponsor their parents and grandparents, while IRCC has only offered around 20,000 spots.
If you receive an invitation, you do not want to miss out on this opportunity of a lifetime to obtain permanent resident status for your parents or grandparents. You will want to ensure you submit a completed application so that IRCC can approve the application, and enable your parents and grandparents to move to Canada as quickly as possible. Campbell Cohen will use its over 45 years of expertise to help you.
What If I Do Not Receive An Invitation?
If you do not receive an invitation under the PGP 2021, you may wish to consider the Super Visa as an alternative to bring you parents and grandparents to Canada. Canadian citizens and permanent residents can apply to bring their parents and grandparents as visitors for up to two consecutive years on their initial visit to Canada without the need to renew their status.
