Canada's borders are now open to tourists who are fully vaccinated, starting September 7, 2021.

To be allowed to enter Canada, travellers will need to have completed the full course of vaccination, with a Canada-approved vaccine.

These are: Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Janssen. Other vaccine types that may be approved in other countries, are not currently accepted in Canada.

A full course means two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca, or one dose of Janssen.

Travellers must have received their last vaccine dosage at least 14 days before they travel to Canada.

Canada has been preparing to fully open their border. The country first opened their border to fully vaccinated American citizens and permanent residents starting on August 9, 2021.

What you need to know before coming to Canada?

If you are fully vaccinated and you wish to travel to Canada for a vacation, or as a tourist, you must use the ArriveCAN mobile app. In the app, you will be asked to provide your travel information.

You will also need to show a COVID-19 test result taken before you arrive in Canada. You may be selected at random to take another test upon arrival. In addition, you will have to show proof of your vaccination.

You also will not need to quarantine if you meet certain requirements. However, you should still prepare a quarantine plan, in case you're asked to quarantine when you arrive in Canada.

Children under 12 years old who are unvaccinated will still be allowed to enter Canada without needing to quarantine, as long as their parent or guardian is accompanying them and is fully vaccinated.

Tourists who are not vaccinated are not allowed to enter the country.

Only certain individuals can enter the country if they are not vaccinated. This includes Canadians, permanent residents, temporary workers, international students, diplomats as well as others. These people will need to quarantine for 14 days.

In addition, international flights are only accepted in nine airports in Canada. These include:

Flights from India and Morocco will continue to be banned until September 21 and September 29 respectively.

If you are travelling from one of these countries, you will have to stop at a third country where you will have to get a negative COVID-19 test, before continuing to Canada.

In addition, flights from India will continue to be banned until at least September 21, and flights from Morocco will be banned until at least September 29.
