Citizenship and Immigration Minister Monte Solberg to make first public address

the CanadaVisa Team - 18 July, 2015

In Solberg's first public address as Minister, he is expected to speak on issues which "affect the successful integration of immigrants into the Canadian society". The meeting will focus on various topics including how Canada can better address foreign skill and credential recognition.

Newly-appointed Minister of Citizenship and Immigration (CIC), Monte Solberg, is attending his first public forum policy conference, entitled "Integrating immigrants: Building partnerships that work." The meeting will take place on March 19th and 20th at Toronto's Metro Convention center.

The event is being billed as "immigration unplugged" and will focus on CIC's selection system and how it affects newly-landed Canadians. Discussion sessions are centered on the issues that Newcomers face upon arrival, specifically skill and credential recognition, as well as systemic racism and discrimination. The meeting will also outline some of the lesser known problems that immigrants face in establishing themselves in Canada.

Approximately 200 delegates, most of whom work with, or represent, Canadian immigrants will attend the conference. Panelists include officials from the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government, as well as non-governmental organizations which have a vested interest in such matters.
