Which documents do you need to obtain a marriage license?

Hello Forum Fellows,

do you know, what kind of documents do I need to provide at the registry to obtain a marriage license? My fiancé is Canadian, I'm Polish. Do I need to get any documents from Poland, confirming that I'm not married there, or is passport simply enough? We live in Alberta.

Hi! I hope someone from Alberta will be able to give you a better answer but I will do my best!

My husband and I got married in Quebec. I'm from the US, he is Canadian. All I had to bring was my passport and I believe my birth certificate as well. And then after we did that we had to wait a few weeks til our date came. I think in the mean time they look up if you've been married before because the lady never asked if I was already married.

All you need is Identification for your fiance and yourself.
