USA visit visa with PR

Hi there,

Is the refusal from the US consular high to get a tourist visa when you have the PR but come from a country where you need a visa to enter the USA. I have heard that you need at least to wait one year or otherwise they will refuse it. A couple of friends were all denied their visa, except one friend who married a canadian guy and has no family or friends in the USA....they gave it to her like 3 months after getting her PR...

The US denies new/recent Canadian PRs visitor's visas for the same reason they would have denied them if they were applying directly from their own country: insufficient ties to their country (in this case, Canada). A new arrival to Canada who immediately rushes off to the nearest US consulate to apply for a visit visa is viewed no differently than if they were applying from their own country, and possibly even worse, because the feeling might be there that they were basically using Canada as a "gateway" to the US because it would be difficult for them to qualify from their home country.

It is best to wait out at least a year before applying because it shows that the new PR's interests are in Canada, they have established their life there, and that is where they intend to reside, rather than feeling out the US from Canada because it's closer than their home country.

I think it really does not matter if you are a new PR or old one as long as you have strong ties to come back..like a job or your pay stubs , your family in Canada and a proof why you are going to the USA..

I myself applied for visitors visa within 3 months of my arrival to Canada.. I did not have a job either..but I had a letter to prove that I was going to take my exam there...and they granted me 10 years multiple entry visa.. I showed them the return ticket and a letter with exam date...It was 2 years back though...I do not know of the picture has changed now...

In the last but not the least , it really depends on the visa officer you face at the time of your visa interview and your luck too...there have been incidences where people have got denied even after 2 years of stay in canada with very nice job..at the same time people have been granted visa with less then 6 months of stay and without jobs..
