Hello everyone,

For all those people working in US on H1B and living in Canada on PR, what do you do about the state taxes being deducted from your paycheck?
Do you get it back as refund, as technically you are not resident of that state anymore. Your insights will be really helpful.

Thanks

Resurrecting a very old post. However, I found some info. It seems you will have to pay state taxes in the state your company is located in irrespective of whether or not you lived in that state. The taxes are due in the place the money is made. So, you living or not living in the state becomes irrelevant. But in this case, if we have an address in that state, can we file as a Resident of the state for the whole year? We are not getting any refunds anyway. How do people in WIndsor Detroit area do this? For those who have an address in Detroit and one in Windsor also, do you guys file State taxes as full year resident and then also file as a full year resident having foreign sourced income for the whole year in Canada?
