Hi everyone, this might sound like a dumb question, but here I go. I am applying to sponsor my spouse to Canada and I end up filling out all the documentation that is required. So the 8 (or different number, depending on region) photos that are required, are they only required where she is, or does she have to send me any photos here in Canada that I have to submit with the application. Because I don't know if I should tell her to get her picture taken and get 8 photos and keep them all, or do I need to get her to mail me any photos to submit with the application.

According to the "Document Checklist [IMM 5491]", it's not mentioned that they must be submitted with the application, it just mentions on the "West Europe [IMM 3901]" regional Information Guides that she needs to have 8 photos. But what confused me is one of my friends who recently had to sponsor someone said that he's pretty sure that I need to have photos with me here to submit with the application.

Please help... :S

Re: Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

Hi bacidash,

You need to submit everything that is requested in the sponsor document checklist (IMM5491) and the region specific checklist at the same time. See section 3 of http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp for the applicant's region specific checklist.

That includes the medical and the police certificates and all? It all goes in one big batch then?

Yes. I would organize it by checklist, but, yes, it all gets mailed at the same time.

And if it's in your budget you should courier it to the Mississauga office, that way you will get instant proof of delivery.

But I should wait for my wife to send me all this stuff, and then mail it out?

So basically it takes a up to a couple of months to fill everything out and get all the required documents together before one can actually send in the application. Am I right?

Yes. You can help her, though, collecting photos of your relationship or any other proof you are going to submit. A lot of people do it together and find it is a fun exercise (in a way) to summarize your relationship :)

It doesn't have to take that long if you're ready to do the work now. My hubby and I took 2 weeks to gather everything together.

But I am in Canada and she is in Europe. I have the relationship photos and stuff, I stored most of them on my phone, I just need her official Immigration photos, she has to get them done and then mail them to me, as well as the medical and police clearance stuff.
