Hey guys! I came across this forum during a time of desperation and i would really love all input.

My best friend would like to sponsor her 2 sisters who lives in Jamaica and she would like to know how to go about doing so. Her dad who was the legal guardian of her sisters died 9yrs ago, and due to his death the children move home to live with their biological mother, who is very abusive towards them ( both physical and emotional) the children called my friend today and told her they are living at the neighbors house who is unable to provide their basic needs. My friend who took the financial responsible for both kids when her dad past away is now thinking about filing for both. but we heard she can only do this if both parents are deceased. Is this true? because i am telling her that these kids fits the definition of an orphan.

thanks

Their mother is still alive, so they are not orphans and cannot be sponsored as orphans.
