Hi, my husband and I recently got married. He is here on a student visa. I would like to sponsor him to become a permanent resident. I currently am not working but am looking for work. I am currently on social assistance. If I get work and work there for 2 weeks or something will that be enough to prove I can support us? Im really new to this and have no idea what to do. Any help would be awesome. Also we have known each other for less than a year is that a problem?

As you are aware, you cannot sponsor your husband while you are on social assistance. I would recommend that you wait a bit longer than two weeks after getting off social assistance before you apply (I would wait at least a month after you have started working). You will also have to remain off social assistance while his application is being processed (otherwise the application will be refused). Additionally, you will have to remain off social assistance for the three years after he lands (otherwise you will be asked to repay any social assistance money you receive back to the government).
