Special authorisation under 24 hours??

Hi all, absolutely panicking here. My 5 year old is Irish Canadian and has a citizenship cert for Canada. His Canadian passport expired and we thought we could just travel with his Irish passport. I went to check in for our flight which is in ~19 hours and I realised he can’t travel with just the Irish passport. I’ve applied for the special authorisation (3 hours ago) but haven’t heard anything yet. Anyone have any luck receiving approval having applied less than 24 hour before a flight?? Any number I could call?? We’re absolutely panicked.

I have not had to do this but have seen people here report them getting approved quick enough. That of course does not guarantee that it will be done in time.

Important: you have applied for this to return to Canada, right?
