HI EVERYONE. DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES MY CANADIAN WIFE HAS NOT MET HER 600 HOURS FOR EI IN ORDER TO GO ON MATERNITY LEAVE. sHE WAS EXACTLY 11HRS SHORT. MY QUESTION IS, ARE THEY ANY BENIFTS WE COULD APPLY FOR WITHOUT AFFECTING MY PR? I LANDED LAST YEAR, AND HAVE NO CONDITION ON MY PR AS WE HAVE NOW TWO KIDS TOGETHER. WILL HER GOING ON SOCIAL ASSISTANCE MAKE US OWE THE GOVERNMENT SINCE WE ARE A FAMILY, AND AS THE HUSBAND I CANT GO ON WELFARE FOR 5 YEARS WITHOUT HER BEING LIABLE. ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Yes - her going on social assistance will result in you owing money back to the government.

If either of you go on social assistance within the first three years after you land - you will have to repay this money.

Having said that, your PR status won't be affected.
