Is anybody else in this situation?
Any suggestions as to why?
Ideas on how do find out why this is taking so long or what we can do?

Thanks,
Zach & Anne

Which VO are you going through? Have you contacted them at all? (via email, fax, etc)

Vegreville, Alberta

Yes we have contacted them a few times via phone, spoke in February to a call centre agent who said everything was in order and we just had to wait. I attempted to call a few times again last week, but could not get thru.
The website has no updates as to our process either.

You provided absolutely no useful information for anyone to be able to offer you any help/advice.

1 - Where is the sponsor from?
2 - Where is the applicant from?
3 - What's the nature of the relationship?
4 - What kind of application did the sponsor make? (spousal, conjugal, etc)
5 - Did you have any requests for additional information by CIC after you submitted your application?
6 - What type of supporting evidence did you submit with your application?
7 - Was an interview requested? If so, when?
8 - Where did you send your application?
9 - How old are the two of you?
10 - Was it an inland application or outland?

Ok, so it is a spousal sponsorship from inside Canada. Applicant is from the USA, but we have been living in Canada for about five years - came in on visitor, then had work and student permits, then decided we'd stay in Canada so applied PR. We have been married for 5 1/2 years and have 4 children together - all born in Canada. Neither of us have been married before or have other children. We have a house, but Zach can't be on the mortgage due to not being a permanent resident.

The only additional requests we've had from CIC is a second medical since they are only valid for a year, and we've had to renew the open work permit as well the since it's only good for a year. The CIC website that you can log into says the application is "in progress" and that they have received the requested information.

Back in February of 2012 we sent a letter to our MP inquiring as to whether or not they could help us speed up the process but we haven't heard anything from him.

The length of time for second stage approval seems long for what seems to be a simple application - to us anyway :)
It's kinda funny that I'm sponsoring my husband, because at this point, I'm home looking after the four kiddos, and he is working at great full time job (with no life insurance).

I would have said your timeline was excessively long until I read that you were applying inland. The inland wait is often 2 years or so.. so I would so you are not that "out of the norm" as far as your timeline is concerned. Based on averages for inland and the fact that your case seems straight forward, I would guess that you are nearing the end of your wait, but no one really knows. For an inland application though, wait times like yours are the norm.

A sponsorship between Canada and the U.S. typically faces very few obstacles. There aren't a lot of Canadians trying to flood into the U.S., and there aren't a lot of Americans trying to flood into Canada. So the chances are pretty much 100% that your application will be successful, especially because you've been married for several years and you have children together. But because you went with an inland application, I'm not at all surprised that you've been waiting almost two years. I wouldn't start fretting unless you still haven't heard anything 6 months from now.
