Hi folks,

I entered Canada last weekend and came be to the US. I provided a canadian address for my PR card to be mailed.

If I need to return to Canada before my PR card come thru, does anyone know what I have to do?

You need to go to the canadian embassy to obtain travel documents if you dont have ur permanent card yet. Passport with your COPR is not enough.

Unless you are traveling by non commercial transportation, i.e. driving a car.

As PMM said drive your own car or a rental car. You wouldn't have any problem. The officials would know that you are a landed immigrant or PR.

You would need to take your copy of COPR form with you as well along with your passport if you are going by road, if you are travelling by Air then you need to apply for a Travel document at the Canadian Consulate in the Jurisdiction of your state in USA.

Hi my friends,

Do you know how long does it take to have a Travel Document from the day of sending (overnight) to the day we will receive it in hand? I need to travel to Canada from the US now, but I don't have a PR card. I cannot find the time line for Travel Document in the CIC website

Thanks a lot

Travel Document generally takes 1-2 days depending on which Canadian embassy you apply in US. Here is the link for LA embassy

http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/los_angeles/imm/apply-demande.aspx?lang=eng&menu_id=321&menu=L

good luck!

Thank you very much for your reply. I have sent the application to Buffalo, it arrived this morning, Monday. I cannot find the time line for Buffalo. For LA, it is shown in the link, the application by mail should be done about 10-15 days, not such a quick 2 days as in person.

I have sent a personal copy of my COPR, is there any problem as I do not send the original one (the only one I have)?

J1visa,

you don't need a travel document when you travel by road from US to canada, your COPR papers and passport is good enough, why don't you travel by road from the US if that's not a problem? I mean if you are close enough to the border or you could fly to either Detroit, Buffalo, Seattle etc depending on your location in US.

It takes too long to drive, the money for gas is more than the airfare. Furthermore, since I am a PR I cannot drive a car with the US plate in Canada, if I rent a car for sure I have to rent a car for 6 days, so it costs more. Moreover, I do not have time, such 6-7 days, for this trip. I will drive in my last trip to settle in Canada, but not this time. I have to go there to retake a photo for my PR card application as I want to visit my home country soon.

Hi everyone or seniors

1) Do u know if its possible that i enter and then i leave before my PR card arrives and then enter the next time, with my passport, cause my passport does not require any visa to enter canada and then get the PR card after that?

2) As i understand, i do not need the PR card to get the SIN number/ card but what about drivers licence and Health card? Do i need the PR card to apply for Health card and Drivers licence?

3) And also, is it possible to change the mailing address for the PR card after informing the IO at the immigration check point? Say, the address that we gave at the point of entry has changed, is it possible to change the mailing address or is there a way to inform them of a change in address?

Would appreciate answers soon, cause need to decide on how to enter and leave after the initial entry.

Thanks and appreciate it.
