I understand that both me and my sponsored spouse have to write relationship letters as part of the sponsorship application.

1) Does it need to be addressed to anyone, like "immigration officer, CIC' or just 'to whom it may concern' will do?

2) Should we put the letter as part of our individual package (sponsor documents) and (immigration documents for spouse) or put both of these letters along with sms log, reference letters in a third envelope?

In my case, I put all of the forms in order at the front of my package. I then had a table of contents for the supporting documents with the relationship statement in that section.

I just put the documents in the order of the document checklist and I did not address my relationship "letter" to anyone...

I was wondering about this too, I just addressed mine to "to whom it may concern". I'm sure it doesn't quite matter as long as it's clear what the letter is, which should be obvious when they read it.

I'm clueless as to how to organize this stuff though. I think I might just put it in the order of the checklist as well with a table of contents on top.

I would guess that it should be part of the supporting documents or "evidence" and proof of your relationship. It's not something they directly ask for so it's not in the checklist, but it's something that a lot of people include because it helps to show that the relationship is genuine.

One of the forms asks to explain the nature/timeline history of your relationship. If you needed more space for that section, then you would need to add an additional paper but there was no mandatory "relationship letter" as part of the requirments.

well for the sponsor it says on their portion of the documents is there anything further you have to say to show that your relationship is real....and that is when the sponsor can if he or she wishes to write something out.....with respect to the applicant one of the questions is how did the relationship progress and most cannot fit that information in the box provided so they add an additional sheet or two or three of paper setting out the progression of the relationship....and again at the end of the applicants forms it asks whether you have anything further to say to prove your relationship is real and that is where the applicant can write something........these are not mandatory....what is mandorty is the applicant setting out the progression of the relationship.....

is it better to add this addtional information...of course it is.....and it is much better if both the applicant and sponsor do it........for me I was the sponsor and set out why I felt our relationship was real in 2 pages.....my husband, the applicant did only one page.....but his answer to the progression of our relationship was 2.5 pages......

hope this helps...

So, on the relationship letter, I would put 'To Whom It May Cocern' and thinking it to put in a 3rd envelope marked 'proof of relationship'

Just a little tip: make sure when you provide additional information about your relationship, try to write in third person point of view, whenever possible/applicable. The thing is, if you happen to write something like "I do this, do that" (especially ona separate sheet of paper), then the immigration officer might wonder who wrote the statement :).

But sometimes I also use "we"......

And to other people: how do you guys do it? Just curious...!

My hubby and I did separate relationship essays , his was attached to spouse questionnaire and mine attached to sponsor questionnaire. Since we did it separately we used first person point of view.
But for the narrations or captions for proof of relationship , we did it in 3rd person point of view because yes, it would be confusing to a reader on who is "speaking" if first person is used. It was a pain to caption a group shot showing who were in it like: Photo from left to right: H's mom, H, W, W's dad, and so on and so forth. haha.

To avoid confusion like this I just made sure that when we wrote stuff that at the beginning we always stated "my name is..." and while writing we would always refer to the other with names rather than her, them, blah blah. But writing in third person would always work as well, though I think it would make it feel less personal to whoever ends up reading it.
