Hi PMM,

It seems like you're one of the experts in this forum and I was hoping you can help me with my situation...

I'm a Canadian citizen and I submitted a spouse sponsorship on Jan/2011. Immigration office is still working on applications received on Oct/2010. My wife has a valid work permit and we are planning to travel to the US and Dominican Republic this year.

When we return to Canada I don't foresee any problems as she has a valid work permit for Canada, but someone told me that when she re-enters Canada while her sponsorship application is on going that we would have to re-submit the sponsorship application as the one we submitted is invalid.

Do you know if this is true?

Or has anyone gone through a similar situation??

Your help is much appreciated!!! Thank you!!!!

1. If it is "in Canada" spousal application, it is advisable not to leave Canada. Out of Canada not much of a problem. As the IO on application for re-entry can refuse, as the intention is to remain permanently.

I'd like to expand on this a little. PMM is correct. However, if your wife is visa exempt or has a valid entry visa, then along with the WP and proof of the sponsorship, I doubt VERY much that the CBSA officer will have a problem with letting her re-enter Canada. Leaving the country doesn't make the application "invalid". It's if your wife is refused to be allowed to re-enter Canada, then the application will be refused.
