Hi lovely people of Reddit, I have a question hoping yall can help me out with.

I noticed many study permit rejection stems from IRCC's belief that you won't return home because of a "lack of family ties". In my case, I was raised by a single mum (dad left 20+ years ago), sadly my mother passed away in 2018. My remaining family members are my brother and my spouse who will be following me to Canada under the Spousal Open Work Permit program.

What are your thoughts, will this be strong grounds for rejection. It would suck though... can you imagine the IRCC officer going: "His father left him and his mum died, sucks to be him, but I'm going to reject his application because of this"

On a side note: I am pretty sure I am covered on the financials bit, being able to cover my school fees and 3x the living expenses amount stated on IRCC's website.

Not Reddit but you are asking about lack of family and home ties. Family is your spouse and children. If your spouse’s permit is refused, one reason may be because she is your family tie. Home ties are reasons to return home - job/career, props that require overseeing etc.

You wife is your family tie (once you become an adult, parents aren't considered immediate family or strong family ties). If your spouse is going to Canada with you, then in fact, it's very weak family ties in home country.
