I have applied for the PR last month August 17 and my a letter for medical this week. I still have to get the police clearance certificate from India and Canada. I checked out the Indian embassy website and it says

*Appropriate application form duly filled in.
*Current Indian passport with valid immigration papers or Canadian passport in original and photocopy

Do it mean I have to submit my original passport with the form or just a copy, also how do I get the police clerance certificate in Toronto and how long is it valid for (the immigration ppl have not requested for the certificate - should I wait or get it now)

Thank you any help is appreciate.

You need to take your original passport and photo copy. Original will be returned to you after verification.

The PCC should be obtained within three (3) months of your application. If you get the PCC in October you can use it till you submit the application to CIC before January 2012.

Thank you for the reply. The embassy is asking me to submit it in the mail, does that mean I need to send the original and a copy. I have already applied for the residency last month and got called for medicals last week so say I get the pcc by October end that should be ok right,
And idea about the Canadian clearance.

*Current Indian passport with valid immigration papers or Canadian passport in original and photocopy

For PCC, India embassay ask for Orginal passport. They will keep your orginal passport till the
pcc will be issued. They will return both passport and PCC in registerd xpress post envelope only. So you have to give an extra xpress post envelope too.

I recently issued PCC from india embassay toronto. This was the process.

Thank you for clearing that out. I will be dropping the application at the office instead of sending it in the mail. Did you need the passport for the Canadian clearance

For India you have to send them when you send the your application else they will return your application as it;s incomplete.

For canada, They might asked letter on if they need. Generally, they don;t need PCC from Canada.

If you have been lived in other country for more then 12 months then you also need to send the PCC from that country even.

I sent my application along with PCC from Indian Consulate in Toronto and Canadian PCC...
For Indian PCC, I went to the consulate in toronto along with all necessary forms and documents ( They wont keep ur original passport but only copies of first and last page, ur valid canadian immigration document e.g. study or word permit, $20 bank draft fee, 2 prepaid self-addressed mailing envelopes), but also carry ur Original passport with you incase they ask for it; and then u are done, It will take 4 weeks to get ur PCC back to ur home address.

For Canadian PCC, u can both apply and pay Online or in person at their Toronto Police's main office in Toronto which will take around 3-4 weeks to get it back and I think fee was around $30...and I think its good for 6 months only...Gud luck ;D

Friends, I think there is a slight misunderstanding here. We dont need PCC from Canada is you are already apply from Canada. It is stated in the instructions guide page no.14 posted on CIC website. It says that "These documents are to be provided for each country other than Canada, in which you have lived for six consecutive months or longer since reaching the age of 18"

Thanks every one for the reply, I did submit the PCC with my application since it never mentioned it in the forms so I presumed I would have to submit it when they ask.
I was in India for a month after I turned 18 then came here to study so technically I dont need it from India but I am still get it just in case they ask it. Should I send the Indian PCC after I get it?

@sher_singh do you know the link to apply online?

Thanks guys

sher_singh, what do we need a PCC from Canada if we are applying from within Canada. As per the instruction guidelines available on the CIC website, PCC from Canada is not required.
