How long does it usually take for immigration to reply to a request sent by an MP?
We contacted our MP about our case, and she said that she sent in a request to get a timeline for us. How long does it take them to reply back?

Usually, not more then 4-5 business days. It also depends on when was the request send (actually) from MP. Some MP's offices are pretty busy so expect some delays from MP side too.

Hi!
usually they say they get feedback/reply from CIC within 48 hours, for sure not 4-5 biz days! it also depends on how fast your MP sends a request for information.

As i said, consider some delays from MP and some from your VO so in worse case, you will have an update within 4-5 days. If you are lucky then you might even hear a news within 24 hrs. But I wouldn't hold my breath on 48 hrs timeline else if you don't hear anything in that optimistic timeline, your anxiety will kill you.

what newdelhi2011 saying is true - it depends on situation, but 48 hrs timeline - according to the law, I guess. It happened to us when we didn't get reply within this timeline, so MP had to contact them again after this timeline in order to receive information. You don't have to worry if the timeline has passed - just contact your MP again and ask what's the progress - it is normal, no need to panic.

Depends on the type of request, and the status of the file. If it is still within processing times do not expect a reply at all.

I'm past the processing times, 12month since Inland AIP, the CC agent told me their still doing background checks back in Sept told me to call in Nov, called in Nov told me samething and callback in Feb 2012. If I contact my MP will he get the same answer, or will he be able to speed things up? Do you just simply call the MP office and ask for them to send a request or do you have to show some proof of urgency or something?

He will probably get the same answer, but he might be able to see where your application is at. You just have to call your local MP and ask them to send in a request about your file. When they hear something, they will call you or email.

hi! have you contacted CSIS and border agency? I think you should do that first, before contacting MP - in your case, reply from those agencies can be both status check-up and proof of urgency for MP, ofc if you will still need MP's help after you get info regarding b/checks.

do I call a 1800# for CSIS and border agency? or have to write a request form from somewhere? I heard the Ottawa office was slow, maybe the checks are done, I'm just waiting inline for them to process?

The MP's office can't "speed up" anything. Otherwise everyone who has an application in process would ask for their application to be sped up. Do not ask your MP to speed anything up as it simply is not possible

09-12-2011, pick up friday !
It all depends. In my case the MP tried to contact the embassy twice and never got any answer and we were way passed the estimated 12 months.

He said that they were obliged to answer him within 5 working days.

In the end he did get infos going through a call center but it gave us very limited infos.

That said a week later he got an interview request, so it stoped to that, but the MP was ready to fill a complain on our behalf to the minister. As the embassy was not responding. It feels like our applicatiOn was a hot potato that no one wanted to handle.

But hey mu husband is her now. So it s all good.
