Hello,

I am Canadian Citizen since 1994 and have sponsored both my parents. They have Canadian Permanent Residency since 2001.
They have left Canada end of 2008 to visit their country of origin for 4,5 months as usual. Upon their arrival my father has fallen sick and eventually passed away 1 month ago of cancer. My mother took care of him until the end.

Considering the situation - I do not have brothers or sisters and no close family members in the country of origin and nor do my parents, since their permanent residency card expired begin 2009, can I reinstate my mother's resident status (include sponsorship) and how do I proceed. I would appreciate if it would be possible to bring her asap.

Thank you

If your mother is visa exempt to Canada, she can simply return with her passport. Immigration may or may not give her problems on entry for being a PR who doesn't meet the RO (residency obligation). If they report her for it, she can appeal, if they don't, she can live in Canada for 2 years and then her PR status will be back in good standing.

If she is not visa exempt to Canada, she can apply for a PR travel document at the Canadian embassy in her country explaining and proving why she got stuck outside Canada for so long. If she gets it, she can return, if not, she could appeal, if she loses the appeal, she will likely lose her PR. Upon losing her PR, she could apply for a visit visa or you could apply for a super visa to get her to Canada a bit faster and then you can sponsor her for PR again.
