Live-In Caregiver to Permanent Resident

Discussion in 'Skilled Worker / Professional Immigration' started by Noi, Jul 17, 2009.

  1. I am currently a live-in caregiver from Thailand and have applied for permanent residency for myself and two kids. I have already completed the medical checks and am waiting on final approval. I have a couple of questions that I hope someone can answer:

    1. Can I go back to visit Thailand during my application process (3-4 weeks) and come back to Canada? Will that affect my application?

    2. Is there a time limit to when I have to bring my kids to Canada once they receive permanent residency? Can they stay in Thailand for 1 or more years and then come over?

    3. Once I receive permanent residency am I free to choose any job I wish, or do I have to stay as a live-in caregiver? Do I have to apply for an open work permit?

    Thanks for your help,
  2. Hi

  3. Do you know if I have to be the one that takes my kids into Canada (they are 13 & 15 years old), or can they come in with someone else?
  4. Hi

Depends on the airline, they not require escorts. Someone else could do, maybe the airlines.

  5. Hi guys! I'm a new live-in caregiver here in BC. Just wanna know if somebody knows about this. Is it true that after 6 months of my stay here can my employer already apply me for a permanent resident? I heard this from our overseas worker welfare administration office in our country. I hope somebody can infos about this.
  6. once you get PR , you are free to do any type of job, anywhere in Canada. You kids have to enter canada before the expiry of thier PR visa.

and no one can apply PR before completing 24 months of employment as a live-in caregiver.
