Hi all,

My postgraduate work visa expired June 6. On May 5 I applied for a temporary work visa with a letter of support from the province of NS that I received during my application from PR through the Provincial Nominee Program, which provides the letter of support for temporary work visa to help bridge the gap until PR comes through. I'm still awaiting my temporary work visa that I applied for in May so am able to continue working as long as I stay in Canada, but I had a death in the family and need to return to the US for the funeral.

Does anyone know if there is an exemption to the implied status for a death in the family? Or thoughts on whether I will be able to return to Canada? I have a permanent job in Canada and can provide a lease and other documents to show I'm a resident here.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sorry about your loss. On paper, it’s absolutely sure that you can return to Canada (especially since you are only travelling to the US), but from the way I interpret the docs, you will not be able to work upon your return until your WP is approved, no exemptions for the reason that you left Canada. Someone can gladly correct me if I’m wrong.
