I-94 travelling back to US from Canada

I will be doing my soft landing next weekend and would like to clarify a couple of things about entering back to US. I will be using Detroit-Windsor Tunnel on leaving and entering back to US. My wife and I both have valid H1 stamp until 12/31/2021, as well as I-94 with same end date. I have a couple of questions:

1. Will we receive a new I-94 (online or paper) when entering back to US? If not, how are departure and entry recorded at CBP and how do we keep a record of this visit?

2. My wife's passport expires next year but she was given I-94 until 2021. Is there any risk that her I-94 validity is shortened to passport expiry date when we enter back?

Thanks for your help!

1) you may or may not get new i94. Totally depends upon the officer. But mostly new i94 won't be generated for road crossing.. however you'll be able to find your entry and exit in your travel history in CBP site.
2) should not be a problem because you are less likely to get new i94. But if they do issue and issue till the passport, you cannot do anything about it.
