H1B Homeowner in US moving to Canada - Sell home before or after moving to Canada?

Hi,

I am an H1B holder with COPR, moving to Canada in the month of November 2018. It would be great if someone can share some insights for their experience of migrating to Canada for the following scenario wherein I move to Canada first and sell my primary/principal US home thereafter.

I have been trying to wrap my head around the tax implications of holding onto my property and contemplating if selling my US home, after migrating to Canada is a bad idea.

Any help is much appreciated!

I think it's better to sell while you are physically in the US, but if you have a good realtor, you can FedEx docs from Canada and use a Notary there. Whatever is more convenient. I also have a home and am on H1B. I will personally sell before moving.
