In my experience, those dates mean nothing. If you are at 12 months, something should be happening soon. Our case took 14 months almost and I think it was a worse case scenario with waiting for an interview and going to the interview. If you are not scheduled for an interview, it shouldn't take that much longer.

My background checks have been in process since June 2017. My due date keeps getting bumped to 2 months every time one due date passes. CBSA is taking so long to complete their checks. Any idea what I should do?

get your MP involved to see what's going on. you can also request notes from CSIS to see if they have completed their part of your background check. they're usually the ones holding everything up. i'm prepared for my background check to take forever since i'm from a "controversial" country.

Thanks for your reply. I have been in touch with my MP (a lot lately!) and they are telling me that Partners are doing their checks and the due dates are getting extended to every 2 months. They also said that no one can ask them to expedite the checks :(

I've asked CBSA to provide notes, who just sent me a letter saying they need extension of another 30 days. I recently requested CSIS to send me their notes. Last month when I asked, all I got was a letter from CSIS saying it's still in process.

I guess I'm from similar 'controversial' country too :(

unfortunately, there's not much we can do. although i read about a case where it was taking ridiculously long (several years) for ircc to process someone's application and that person hired a lawyer to start a case against ircc (cic at the time). as soon as the case was accepted by the court, cic finalized the application within a couple of weeks. the lawyer's point was that even though csis is holding the case up, it's ultimately cic's responsibility to have the case finalized because the person in question is a cic's client, not csis's.

I've contacted couple of Immigration Lawyers regarding "Writ of Mandamus" and they said that even with writing this letter, there are no guarantees as no one can make a Government Bureau work faster than what they are doing. This letter costs somewhere between $3500 - $5000 however, if the judge decides that CSIS is right in their place to take as long as they are, then we end up paying for the court, judge and lawyer costs.
