Not sure if you guys saw this before... Rebel News was able to obtain a memo from IRCC under the Access to Information Act which contains valuable insights regarding the citizenship grant inventory (as of May 2020), their plans for online tests and ceremonies.

Link to the PDF:
https://drive.google.com/viewerng/viewer?url=https://d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net/therebel/pages/47319/attachments/original/1592933752/Citizenship_ATIP.pdf?1592933752

Some highlights from the memo:
  • IRCC admits that citizenship grant processing has "virtually ceased" given the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • As of May 2020, there were 210,930 applications in the citizenship grant inventory, with approximately 42,000 individuals waiting for a citizenship ceremony and over 87,000 waiting for their knowledge test.
  • IRCC plans to conduct 1,000 virtual ceremonies per week.
  • IRCC is exploring ways to expand virtual ceremonies to larger groups - a technological solution is being identified.
  • For citizenship testing, IRCC have partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build a prototype, which should have been delivered by June.

thank you very much!

it mentioned that AWS is working on a prototype for electronic testings, which looks promising.

Hmm that was back in May though. I heard they only administered 1000 ceremonies since June. Unless that number was misquoted.

No problem! :) And yep AWS was supposed to deliver the prototype by June so at least they are working on something...

42k people for ceremony, 87k people for tests... not looking good
Not good for sure, personally I applied at the end of January and I am still waiting for AOR... I am just one of the 210,930 people awaiting, or maybe I am not even in their inventory list LOL

simple math. That will be 42 weeks before the backlog in oath ceremony is cleared. 1000 ceremonies a week isn't even close to be enough

seems spreading rumours and random virus by click the link is not a good idea. have seen many typos in the document. it doesnt look official document from the goverment of Canada. don't fall in the trap of some people. we have not seen this news in the official IRCC website, anything else is spam .

what is this link you add to the google document? who manages this source? https://d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net/therebel/pages

This is actually an embed document from a news article: https://www.rebelnews.com/trudeau_liberals_plan_to_use_zoom_for_online_citizenship

I believe Cloudfront is their CDN (Content Distribution Network) service provider. Although Rebel News is not very credible comparing to other official news sources, this is definitely not virus... :)

This is really valuable, thank you. May I know where you found it?

I am applying for a citizenship certificate replacement, and waited over a year now. The decision is made in March and I still haven't received the certificate. It's killing me.

I want to know how the IRCC is handling these certificate applications and shipments now.

Since we are citizens but not being given the proper attention.

I can feel your pain... As everything is slowly going back to normal, let's hope they will speed up their processing too.

This PDF comes from (not very reliable) Rebel News. You can find the original news article here: https://www.rebelnews.com/trudeau_liberals_plan_to_use_zoom_for_online_citizenship
I believe it only covers citizenship grant, they mentioned nothing about citizenship certificate applications...
