My wife and I are Canadian Permanent Residents since 2023. We are moving to ON, Canada next month permanently with our 2 y/o child; she was born in the U.S. after we became PRs and soft-landed in Canada. We are preparing to submit her inland permanent residence sponsorship application. I have reviewed IRCC and canadavisa.com guidance but still need clarification on the financial requirements:
  1. I understand there is no Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) required for sponsoring a dependent child, provided they do not have a child of their own. However, IRCC states that we still need to demonstrate financial ability to support our child’s basic needs. What exactly qualifies as acceptable proof (pay stub, bank statement, taxes filed, etc.)?
  2. Even if there is no strict requirement to prove financial means, is it recommended to include supporting documents (e.g., employment letters, bank statements, etc.) to strengthen the application?
  3. I do not have substantial savings at the moment. Can I use pay stubs from my current U.S.-based remote employer as evidence of financial ability?
  4. I have not yet filed Canadian taxes. Would it be advisable (or required) to file my 2023 and/or 2024 Canadian tax returns before submitting the sponsorship application?
  5. Is the Financial Evaluation form (IMM 1283) required in our case, even if our daughter has no dependents?
We want to ensure the application is strong and complete, so any guidance on how to best demonstrate financial capacity in our situation would be appreciated. Thank you v. much!
