Hello all! I am just a couple weeks away from sending my application. (Yay!) Medical exam tomorrow and just waiting on my husband to send me his signed forms and such! Just one slight problem. No word from the FBI. I cannot seem to find a phone number for their Criminal Investigation section. They have not run my credit card through. I gave them my deadline and it has passed. I'm not sure what to do... it's bad enough we don't have an Option C Printout letter (just an explanation) and aren't paying the PR Fee right away... I would hate to add something else to the pile of that to be faxed later or sent later... but ah well.

Basically, has anyone else had any experience with this?? Seems hard to get everything ready and done within a time span and an expiration date. :-\

Thank you! I kept searching the page we see for obtaining fingerprints and the FAQ but couldn't find any contact information. I called that number and unfortunately was 15 minutes late... but the extremely nice lady gave me the direct line to the FBI Fingerprint Status Check and I will try tomorrow. Depending on the response I receive, I will post again on this thread after that phone call. Thank you again!

Just wondering, is it possible to fax it to them or mail it to them at a later date? Whenever it arrives?

You can try... In a best case scenario they will send you a request for the certificate, in a worst case scenario they will return the application as incomplete and you will have to resubmit it after having lost several months of time, so I would definitely recommend waiting for the certificate.

When did you send in your application? The processing time right now is 8-10 weeks according to their website. While you did put a requested date on your application, they will not honor them unless the workload permits, and if it doesn't it will be processed in normal processing times.

I sent it November 25th alongside my state clearances which I have already received. I can't even begin to express how I feel right now at the thought of waiting even longer to mail out my application. Thank you for your response, as always.

Not a problem... I wish I had a more positive and upbeat response to offer. Either way, it won't cause you to be just denied or hinder your application in that way. :)

Hi nyssa,
I was in the same nervous boat you're in while I was waiting for my FBI Record to return. October 2009 I sent the request letter, payment, and prints to Clarksburg, West Virginia USA address, and forgot to write the deadline on the envelope so I thought it was doomed, but miraculously, the record arrived near the deadline in my letter (approximately 3 weeks later). Now I have to worry about a November stamped record getting too old too soon (as it was 2 months old by the time we sent our application packet)!
I don't know why yours has taken much longer, though there's an intimidating "16 and 18 weeks" on the CIC site. The FBI site states 8-10 weeks. Did using that phone number help at all?

Maybe you can send them a speedy letter labelled something like INQUIRY REGARDING SENT REQUEST FROM 11/25/2009 on the envelope (so it'll be noticed), kindly asking for a response as this is required for your Application for Permanent Residence to Canada. I mentioned that in my initial letter hoping they'd understand and I have no idea if that made a difference. I know - writing letters is another hassle and everything feels stressful enough for us worrywarts. I started to worry about the state clearance until someone here pointed out it is no longer required initially so I neither obtained nor sent one yet. This is from the cic.gc.ca site, which I have been going by, along with the instructions in the application packet.

I wish you the best and am hoping to still see you in that January 2010 thread!
Remember to breathe (that reminds me....)

I appreciate your kind words and advice :)

I did call that number and it did help. Well actually they redirected me to a different number, but it's all the same! They said they recieved my Request on November 30th but "it takes 8-10 weeks to process so don't panic". Heh. So much for my deadline! :(

I love your idea of sending them a letter. I think I'm going to call them again tomorrow to ask them why it's taking so long to process my payment... and also mail out that letter. (If I don't send the application about by February I have to re-do a lot of the parts which I had ending in January! Boo...)

Awww Nyssa I'm so sorry. But, not that it will make you feel better, I was planning on filing on March 22, 2010 and last night i said to my partner 'look, there is only so much of this I can do myself and your fingerprints aren't one of them' He's as slow about this as the FBI!

Heh, I've said those exact words countless times! (not the fingerprint part, just the "there's only so much...") So, so true. Luckilly the fingerprints part isn't too bad. For me it was the medical bit... which reminds me I should make a thread on that! I wish our timelines were the same, by the way! That would be fun ;-)

I included my name, date of birth and contact phone number on the top, then worte something along the lines of "I am requesting information on the status of my FBI Clearace Request sent on (date). The address to send the clearace request is (address)." Thank you, (signature)

The fax number is 24hrs. I just found out that I had missed one number in the address (due to staying up late filling out forms) :( and the request was sent back and that's why I never got my clearance. So, they said they would resend my clearance to the correct address. It took talking to 3 people and faxing a letter to find out that I wrote down the wrong adress. I should be getting it in the mail soon.

Hope you can get some info from someone and that it gets in the mail soon. I'll say a prayer. :)

Many thanks! I will do that and add in a bit about my request date (as nice as I can be of course, hehe!) Thank you for your prayer. I hope all goes well with you also, I will say a blessing in return. Hopefully we all can have happy endings.
