Hi there,

I have my COPR letter and will land Canada this weekend. But I need to wait for another period for the PR card to arrive while I can also apply for the SIN with my COPR letter. Can I start looking for job after I got my SIN? Or I need to wait till I get my PR card? THanks! :)

In theory, just a SIN is required. There is no legislation that states that a Canadian PR has to possess a PR card while in Canada. However, some employers still ask for one.

You just need a SIN.

You don't even need a SIN card, just the number. Companies will ask for your SIN (and a void personal cheque, so they can auto-deposit your salary) when you're actually hired. They won't need this before you're hired unless they're doing something shady.

Your PR card, you only need it in the airport immigration when you leave and come back to Canada.

Thanks for the answers, very hepful! :) one more thing, will they take my confirmation of permanent residence when I land? as I'm planning some trips to the States this winter and maybe I wont have my PR card by then, my passport is visa excepted, I am thinking can I just show them the COPR when I coming back to Canada? Thanks

They'll fill out your COPR and let you sign it and have you keep it. You would need your COPR to apply for a SIN, open a bank account, apply for health insurance, driver's license, etc. It would be your proof of being a PR while you still don't have your PR card.

Regarding going out and back without a PR card and just a COPR, I think it's possible, I'm just not sure how much of a hassle it would be, since the airport (Toronto Pearson) has only 2 entry lanes: "PR Card holders/Citizens" and "Visitors/Non-PR Card holders."

I got my PR card after about 8-9 weeks of landing

You should have received 2 copies of the COPR. The landing officer will keep one and you keep one.

You won't need your COPR to re-enter Canada. As a visa-exempt person, you can travel back on the strength of your passport. Once you get to Canadian immigration, you can explain you haven't received your PR card yet. They will see your PR status when they swipe your passport.

Many Employers ask for proof of residency, either medical card or PR card. I remember I had none when I arrived. So I showed COPR and a letter from medical authorities confirming that I applied for Medical card.

Again, in theory, just the COPR and passport. Which province?

Depends on immigrant category. For those who were selected as skilled immigrants, csq is a must. If one has it, one must present it.
RAMQ clearly states it

thnx for the info
If you landed outside QC and you don't have csq you are still eligible.
